barrel twist vs grain of bullet

So my AR has a 14.5" 1:7" twist WOA match barrel. I've been looking everywhere for 62gr varmint bullets to reload but can't find any. Will 55 or even 40 trainers work or is my twist to aggressive for that light of a bullet?

I wander why they dont put twists in barrels that will stabilize all the bullets available for that caliber. Like say for instance an AR most come with a 8 twist.

They do not put 1-7 twists in all rifles because you can not push slugs as fast as you can with say a 1-14 twist with out excessive chamber pressure. you can get 4000fps from a 22-250 with a 1-14 twist with a 40 grain bullet but you can't get that fast with a 1-7 twist as it will over spin the slug and it will more than likely blow up in flite. I've had this happen, most cartridge and gun companies sell a caliber by getting high velocities and to do this they need slower twists to keep chamber pressure with in safe limits.

talk to benchrest guys, if you want pure accuraccy you get the twist rate that is the slowest possible to stabilize a certain bullet. a 1x7 or 1x8 is not always ideal for accuraccy, but neither is a 1x14 and thats why there are multiple twist rates.

So you are saying that this whole twist thing is just a conspiracy to rip off shooters by advertising faster velocities, but making sure we can't shoot all the bullet weights we want to???

Yeah.. if the bore is too small, the bullet won't go in - if it is too big, the bullet will fall out on the ground.

I never said anything about a conspiracy just that a 22-250 with a 1-14 twist with a 55gr bullet at 3650fps sells better than a 1-8 twist and 3500fps to the general public that does not reload. When I put a douglas barrel on on my 22-250 I called them and asked about the difference between the 1-14 and 1-8 and they said the 1-8 I could run heavier slugs but if I was going to run 55gr or less I would not be able to run them as fast as I could thru a 1-14 twist.there is where I got my info from.

... and 95% of 22-250 shooters shoot 50 and 55gr "slugs".

So why would they make 8" twist barrels, when many light bullets will come apart when shot in an 8" twist.

When there is enough demand for fast twist 22-250's. they will just appear n the shelves.

But it DID happen a lot in the old days, before the invention of the ruler so you could measure bullets.
