Bat Action

I picked up my Bat action today from the FFL holder. It is very pretty, but for almost $1200 it should look good. The fit of the bolt is unbelievable. There is zero clearance between the bolt and action, it does not wiggle at all. How they make the fit that tight and still have it move effortlessly is a mystery.

It should be a fun project. I already have a barrel and reamers but need to order almost everything else.

Jack,

what caliber are you building on your BAT ? What model BAT ... SV with a .308 boltface ?? How about some details on the stock and your intended purpose.

Just curious as I have several custom actions and small calibers... Farley Firefly 17 Ack Hnt, Stolle Kodiak 17 Little Nasty, Stolle Grizzly 20 Duster (soon to be).

It's the Bat S with a 222 bolt face, right bolt, left port, no ejector. It will be a medium neck 221 glued into a regular benchrest McMillan stock. To be used for ground squirrels off a portable bench. I have been shooting a Wichita in 223 but it heats up pretty quick. I figure the 221 won't get hot as quick and I'll be able to shoot faster.

I shot custom actions for years in competition without ejectors. Now all the custom match rifles have ejectors. Just a thought.

jack,

was that the BAT multi-flat action listed on BRC by russ haydon ?? I almost bought that action about 5x's as that is one very sweet action.

i actually bought the kelbly built grizzly in 223 also on the BRC ads. I paid $1500 for the complete rifle as this will allow me to swap bolts and barrels from my Kodiak, and Panda actions. I now have 3 different Stolle actions, 3 different bolts, 3 different stocks, and any one of 8 different barrels which can interchange and thread onto any of my set-ups. All my actions are R/L with extractors.

Maybe someone who's a math major can calculate the total number of rifle configurations I now have. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

Sure was. Now it's mine.

I have a machine shop and do all my own fitting but if you don't have a shop the Kelblys are hard to beat. You can order any barrel and any bolt and just screw it together. Modern CNC machining is pretty much perfect.

I'm still trying to figure out how to fit it in an action wrench?? First time I have seen a 14 sided action with unequal sides.

I have a multi flat, 308boltface, diamond fluted bolt, dual port w/ejector and integral recoil lug sitting in the safe. Just waiting to compile the parts money.
