Been Very Quiet

I've only been out a few times so far this Spring because I decided to give it a rest until the pups are weaned. The three times that I have been out, including last night which was a perfect night, I have yet to hear a single coyote. It's like the earth is void of them.

i finally made it out this past Saturday. same thing...not a peep. we did manage to get between some fox pups and mom. mom sure did bark a lot :)
limbhanger10 has been out more than me and has experienced the same thing.

i think they just dont want to give away their den location, but...still no action either.

I've not been out in a month or so but so I can't really add any personal experience. That said I'd sure think there would be some non-breeding pair / transient coyotes out there. I wonder what causes them to shut down this time of year? Maybe not wanting to get in a confrontation with said breeding pair?

It's been very quiet at my regular spots too. I've had a lone coyote pass through my property twice in the past month. At another local property that saw coyotes almost daily all winter....Last night I got my first cell cam photo of a coyote in about 2 weeks. Western WA.

Maybe it's because they are hunkered down denning. Or maybe so many guys have thermals now that the coyote numbers are dipping.

I've called in a few foxes, but the cats and coyotes have been absent.

Who knows...

I would think that it's probably a combo of denning and so much fresh food starting to become available. I keep telling myself to just put up the call/rifle until Summer, but man it's hard to pass up a 50 degree night.

Went out last weekend and managed 4 out of 6 we called in.

I am in the same train of thought as Dane G. I have nothing to base this on except my experiences and the land owner reports I get from this time of year.
