Bench Rest

I suspect this has come up before, but I am looking for recommendations on a shooting/bench rest set up for the range. I have been using a pretty good one piece rest that I got for christmas. Not sure the manufacturer but its probably a $150 rest. I was hoping to discover if any of you fellas have a rest or combination of rests that you really like and that works well for you.

Thanks

I highly recommend the the new Caldwell Firecontrol Joystick rest. It's a kick in the pants to shoot from. It's around $200.

I like a Edgewood rear bag. You can get them at Sinclair.

I want one myself! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Are the Fire-Control still on backorder at Midway?

Another thing I want to try. A 3" wide flat fore-arm adapter, which is supposed to control the torque and twisting on a rounded fore-end. Sinclair sells those too.

If your going to spend $200 dollars why not the Caldwell Lead Sled? They run $199 dollars at Sportsmans. Seems like alot of money for a front rest only when you can get the whole shebang for the same money. I think the Lead Sled would have a greater range of applications as well. Just a thought.

I have been using a Rock Br 1000 which is a decent rest kind of a copy of the Bald Eagle slingshot but after playing with a Caldwell Fire control rest I will be getting one shortly, IMO much faster to reajust with one joystick than turning two knobs, also don't scimp on the bags get some decent bags that fit.

There was another up at WW-VI. Seems I ain't the only cheapskate around........ Someday folks will catch on to just how easy/fast/good these are........And the junkyards won't be able to keep 'em in stock.

The reason I like the Fire-Control rest, has been mentioned already. The speed you can re-aquire your target is cut in more than half. Which helps if you are shooting in a condition. I don't like dinking around with knobs, wheels wasting my time while the wind is changing. When I can move the crosshair with the tug or push of the joystick. It has 60 minutes of adjustment.

$200 bucks is really a bargain compared to the next step up a SEB or Farley at $800+, and Sam posted a link even cheaper.

I used this thing longrange rockchuck hunting one day. I settled my sights on a rockchuck colonie. I could pan from one rockchuck to another at 1000 yards.

If you want fast, a joystick is hard to beat.

Winning BR shooters usually shoot at least one shot a second. You need a quick rest for that. Some top BR shooters can shoot almost 2 shots per second with a single shot rifle.

Bald Eagle Precision Machine Inc. is no longer in business.
R.W.Hart & Son in Nescopeck, PA offers a fine rest with many options as to tops.
