Benelli choke choice

Just picked up a super nova. Was checking out the chokes it came with, full, mod, and imp. Which is what i figured...but the full says no steel shot. What are you guys using for waterfowl? Also, as for a turkey choke what route do you guys go with?

Thanks
Brian

The Kicks GT chokes in .660 or .665 work fine for me with the 3" Winchester Supreme alloy #6 loads in my Super 90's.
The Comp-N-Choke XXX Full works great too.

For turkey I have found nothing better than the Indian Creek Black Diamond Strike. A good runner up is the Kick's Gobblin' Thunder.

For decoying ducks, I shoot an extended IC choke. For high flyers or skittish birds, I shoot an extended mod. I like the Briley or Carlson chokes for my M1.

For turkeys, I shoot a Dead Coyote choke, .660".

the dead dog is not too bad in price...man that indian creek sure is pricy...Honestly is it worth it to spend some extra money for those? I have never owned a very good turkey choke. Everything i own has just wokred. But didn't know if i could find stuff for benelli just anywhere

From my Benelli M1's the Indian Creek BDS gives me over 200 pellet strikes in a 10" circle at 40 measured yards with 3" Hevi 13 #6's. A Kick's GT will do about 170 - 175 with the same load. Either one will do the job nicely, but that Indian Creek is a shredder, pure and simple. I have another IC-BDS on a 20 gauge 870 with a 21" barrel and it will break 115 hits in 10" @ 40 yards. That makes the little 20 a reliable and consistent 40 yard turkey killer. Not every choke is going to do that in a 20 gauge. Anyway, for me the Indian Creek has proven to be worth the extra cost. Besides, you only have to buy it once, as opposed to buying two or three less expensive chokes that don't work out and end up rattling around in a drawer. That's my take on it anyway, others will have different ideas.

I shoot tungsten so the .665" is better for that. If I were shooting only lead then I'd drop down in constriction. The cool thing about a choke from Indian Creek or Kick's is that if you try one and it doesn't work out you can send it back and they'll swap it out for another constriction until you find one that works. You don't get from the bubble wrapped mass produced stuff you buy from many vendors or the big box stores. I'd bet that an Indian Creek .665" with the Hevi-13 3-2-6 load (3" shell, 2 ounces of shot, #6's) will make you very happy. That is a pretty well known and solid combination.

.660 with a rhino tube for turkeys using #6 shot Winchester supreme 3"
For ducks I use a undertaker tube long range for everything from 2 steel to BB steel I also us undertaker short range with #4 steel for teal and wood ducks. I use the same .660 rhino tube with number 4 Buck shot for coyotes. In a benelli m-1

For waterfowl, Hunter's Specialties has an extended choke made to shoot large steel shot (edit to add, yep it's the Undertaker , long range). It shoots #4's through large BBB size shot extremely well in my Stoeger and SBE. For turkey, I use the std. X-full that comes with my shotguns and haven't had any issues.

i need to save up a little money here and pick one up, looks like the indian creek might be one i am going with. How much of a difference in the field will there be between the .665 and .660? Most of my shots will be under 50 yards...

Well... about .005" I think. I don't think you understand what it is exactly I am trying to tell you. Tighter doesn't always mean better or longer ranges. There will be a "sweet spot" somewhere and anything with less constriction or more constriction may not or won't pattern as well. Sometimes those differences are pretty small - sometimes they are pretty large differences. There is absolutely no way to tell until you shoot some pattern paper at the range. The .665" will get you close and probably will be best, but there is no absolute way to predict that. Only trial and error can reveal the "sweet spot" for your particular bore and load choice.

alright i got ya. I understood the part about being too tight i was more or less curious of whether or not you meant getting tighter than .660 I will stick with a .665 and just go from there
