Benelli M2 Field?

Anyone have one? If so, pros and cons, please.

I have a Rem. 1100 LT20, that I won, and have a number of
years of flawless service out of. But it is a 2.75" only
gun, and have a hankering to be able to step up to 20 ga.
3" loads, for some hunting situations. I saw some recent
reviews of the M2 Field, with the gel stock, and had to
fondle one. I found a 20 ga. 26" barrel version, at an area
GM, and it surely mounted nicely, and was as light as a
feather. I think I am in love.

Anyway, is there any owners here that might share their
review of their Benelli M2 Field guns?..In either 12 ga.
or 20 ga.

I have a M-2 12 gauge that I shoot sporting clays with as well as hunt with, This is an outstanding gun, I do NOT shoot 3" shells but my handloads of #4 and #2 shot do really well on called in game.
I have a 26" barrel with a lyman fiber optic sight on the front of the barrel, this really helps with different amount of clothing as mounting changes, you can pick up sight in your perifial vision.
Great gun with no problems

I have 3 a 12ga 24" a 12ga tactical 18" and a 20ga 26" and I love them all. The finish holds up to anything and they are dependable. Wonderful guns

I own a Camo M2 in 12 ga 26'' barrel with the comfertech stock, Great all-around shotgun. The first time I took it out and shot clays with it at an unfamilar course in Branson MO I scored 43 out 0f 50.

This gun has accounted for Turkey, pheasant, qauil, ducks , geese, dove . It will shoot Federal Trubal slugs to the point of aim at 60yds all day long through the I/C Tube.In the factory full patterns #4 Remington Buck Very well.

I have been very pleased with this shotgun, It weighs right at 7 lbs and carries and points very nicley.

I would bet the 12 ga version would be lighter than your 1100.

I never have had a malfunction with it yet and it has shot numerous rounds of clays , 2 season in the uplands, 2 season in the duck blind.

i shoot sporting clays tournament all summer long and have been quite successful with my shooting for several years. one thing that i have noticed is that you rarely see a benelli being used. with that said i all so hunt duck about 45 days out of the 60 day season and have seen bennellis used in the pits. if were the one looking for a shotgun for any reason the choice is an easy one. beretta is without question the best semi auto shotgun in the world....... some people will disagree and thats fine. i shoot about 10,000 shells a year and travel all over the states competing and i no what works and what does not work and a benelli is surely not at the top of the list. i have also seen to many of them stove pipe in the duck blinds. it a same really because there sure do fit me well. another thing to think about is recoil. a benelli works with an inertia system and the berettas are a gas system and the gas system will help with recoil a great deal! buy what feels best to you that is one of the main things to consider. if it doesnt fit you cant hit! i have to have all my stocks custom fitted to my body, even the berettas i hunt with are fitted. thats not nessasary for your average shotgunner, but in the games i play one target can mean going home with the cash or going home empty handed. hope this helps you a little. if you have any other questions please send me a pm. when it comes to shotguns i really do know what im talking about. i also give private shooting lessons. thats one thing i really enjoy doing. thanks lee

The reason you don't see Benelli in the shooting games as much as some other brands isn't a reliablity issue - it is a recoil issue. If you're shooting thousands of rounds the short recoil operated action of the Benelli is a little harder on the shooter than the heavier weighing gas operated semiauto shotguns. Benelli has taken steps with the M2 guns to lessen that recoil effect with the ComfortTech stock and better recoil pads than the old M1's like I have come supplied with. A hunter that is packing his gun over rough terrain and brushy cover, and/or, logging miles and needs a quick pointing gun and really doesn't shoot hundreds of times in a day, has a great appreciation of the light, quick pointing, and reliable Benelli.

As for reliability, nothing competes with the Benelli inertia operated action. The Beretta is a wonderful shotgun - but how many of them do LE SWAT cops, High Risk Entry Teams, Hostage Rescue, Secret Service, and elite military units such as SEALS, ect. use? The answer is... ZERO. No Beretta shotguns - period. Benelli's are in high demand and much valued for their reliablity. That says it all!

thats because beretta dosent cater to the tactical crowd. if they did you would not see the benellis at all there either. you obviously dont own a benelli shotgun. they are by no means junk but they are deffeninatly not the most reliable semi auto shotgun made. do your homework before you answer any questions. i live for shotgunning, that what i do! and believe me what i say is very very true! and as far as a bird hunting gun bennelis would fit the bill just fine, but so would a beretta 391 field gun. i only have one beretta semi auto, its an older 390. personally i prefure my browning o/u. my agenda isnt to push a gun just because i own one, i just am passing along helpful educated info. lee

In the spirit of honest education, I believe you need to follow your own advise and do some homework of your own. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Why is that so funny? You're going to have to explain that... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Any time you use the gases from the round to help cycle the gun it will create a build up. I have had to use carb cleaner to get it off the rings and tube before. You do not have this with a recoil cycled gun because it does not use the gases to operate. I have also shot thousands of rounds through my benelli and have had NO problems in skeet and sporting clays contests. Berettas are fine guns and I have owned them along with brownings and remingtons and gas guns do have less recoil as stated but I do not think you can beat a benelli for lightness and dependability. Just my 2 cents

gc your telling me to do my home work! thats funny! lol

After reading all of GC's posts about hunting Predator's with a shotgun as well as the excellent pattern tests that are pinned at the top of the page, it's obvious to me that he's a pretty serious shotgunner.
I'd listen to what he has to say. You'r not the only one that ever fired a shotgun Lee.
I think you'll find that you get more respect when you start showing some.
Always Drama with you. Knock the chip off your shoulder and listen a little.

Dude..just let it go..it's cool.."really"

ok guys i am not trying to start anything here what so ever. i dont claim to know alot about rifles. shotguns on the other hand i know a lot about. i have shot all over the country competeing with the best shooters in the game(sporting clays, skeet) and i am friends with alot of them. i am not in the top class of shooters, but i am on the illinois state team and have won my fair share of shoots. i have never ever seen a benelli in the winners circle. that says something to me. i have owned two benelli shotguns, were they ok yes they were. i now hunt with a beretta, why because it is a better product. thats one reason why you see so many of them in the hands of the top shooters in the world. i am not bashing benelli. benelli spends more money on advertising than beretta thats why so many american shotgun hunters own them, not because they are a better gun than beretta. beretta will have to be cleaned say once every 5000 shells. most average americans will never shoot that many shells in 10 years time. i will shoot that many this year in practice alone. benelli is a fine gun but they are a step down from beretta. argue all you want. the facts are the facts. gc i dont have any beef with you, i am sure you are like most average shotgun shooters and just dont know the facts. it sounds like benelli has been good to you, and that is wonderful. i am very glad! a man as asked a question and i felt like i would give him an educated opinion. i didnt want to start an arguement with anyone. pesonaly i dont care how anyone spends there money. this is supposed to be an open board of discusion and i am very qualified to give an answer. i also hunt ducks from canada to arkansas every year and i meat a lot of happy benelli owners, but i meet several unhappy benelli owners as well. have i ever met an unhappy beretta owner, you bet! just not very darn many. i compete at the highest levels of the game and i do quite well. beretta is the deffent winner. i dont mean any disrespect to any man! i always have an open ear unless i know the truth. sorry if i have upset anyone lee

Skeetlee,

I appreciate the recommendation for Berettas, but let's
just say I have been there, and I am not fond of them.
I really wanted to hear from M2 owners, on their
experience. I don't need to be sold a shotgun, and
I was not looking for "What shotgun should I buy?" advice.
I have a few decades of experience with numerous brands,
and models, both as a shooter, and as a shade tree gunsmith.
Unless I get some "owner's" review, that gives me pause,
this one is going to be a M2 Field 20 ga.

Thanks again.
