Benelli SuperNova

Any of you Benelli supernova shooters got any pics of it in the field? Or any pics of it in action or successful hunts with it?

Looking to buy one because the Remington I bought was the worst gun I've owned. Jammed constantly.....even after I had the chamber polished. Thats not the only issue i had, but what do you expect of their quality lately. Thats a topic for another time though.

Thanks

I did not own mine long enough to want to take pics of it.
The overmold makes it to thick and mine was a rattle trap.

I own a SBE2 now and it's been good ,but it's a semi-auto.

Was I to buy a brand new gun today, I would not be a 3.5" either.

870 WM rule...

Are you sure you had a Super Nova and not a Nova? The Super Nova was supposed to solve the rattling issue.

Just curious if you have an album or something, maybe a wall, you put all these pictures in or on?

Super..... It was not nearly as rattle trapish as the Nova, but more than I liked. The biggest problem was the large grip and forend. I've got big hands and it still felt to big....

Oh i understand! Ive heard a good bit about the bulkiness of it

I really like the 3.5" capability but I'm thinking.... Why do I really need it? Everything "huntable" can be killed with 2.75". Now I've discussed before how I had numerous issues with my supermag....but it's the expected quality (more or less) from remington at its current state. I own a few older Remington's and wouldn't trade them for the world. So, what I'm getting at, is I'm thinking an older wingmaster with 3" chamber may be in my future

I will take off the nice wood and slap on some synthetic furniture on it because its flat out gonna get beat up. Seems $400 is about the average I've seen for them. Sound right? Some places were higher and some lower.

Thanks

I dont shoot 3.5" shells but it is nice to have the ability. One day I may need a couple boxes and all the store will have is 3.5". Nice to be able to use them in a pinch. Maybe if I go up to Sasketchwan snow goose hunting I may use some.

Mine doesnt rattle unless I have a sling mounted on it. It is a bit bulky bit I like the way it fits and feels too me. Then again its what I have shot most of my life.

Cant find any of my pictures. Sure Cousin has a few hundred. In fact heres one. His guns identical to mine. Think this was one of the first few hunts in the field with his new pup.

Well I just went and facebook stalked him. We used to have a ton of pictures but I think weve both slowly deleted most of them. Ill go out tomorrow and see if I can get some Whistle Pigs with the shotty.

Also went home and shook mine as much as I could. No more of a rattle then any other pump gun has.

Cabelas has a tacticool SuperNova on the used rack.... Just might right home with me one day.

Shake an 870 WM once and anything else is too much...lol

I've had 3-3.5" guns and with the good ammo of today I'd never buy another. It's not bad to have the option if you might use it.

Thanks for the replies noobie and Tim!
Tim- so in the situation "the noobie" stated about snow geese, would I not be at a disadvantage with 3"?
"The noobie"- sounds great! I'd love to see the pics of some downed 'whistlers.

I've not hunted Snows, just Canadas. Having killed them with 3" and 3.5" ammo , could not tell the diff. When I bought my current 3.5" gun,I spent an hour at the gun counter with a 3" and 3.5 " gun. The decideing factor was I had a few cases of 3.5" steel and ammo prices had just gone up a bunch. If I had not had the ammo,I'd have a 3" instead and saved $300 .

Most of my shotgunning is for waterfowl. I like having the versatility of being able to shoot all lengths of shells. You may run out of shells in your 3" gun and your buddies are all shooting 3.5". Suddenly you are a member of the Audobon Society (bird watcher). You need ammo and the only ammo left on the shelf is 3.5", not good. The 3.5 also gives you the option of shooting the same weight load as the 3" at a faster speed, or shooting a heaver load at the same speed as the 3" shell. With that being said, your gun must be patterned on the patterning board to make sure that you have an appropriate pattern for the intended game. 3" shells are usually easier to get to pattern well than the 3.5's. You must try different loads and chokes to get the best possible pattern. My 870 Express loves Federal 3.5" #2 & BB steel shot out of a Patternmaster choke tube - 1 3/8 oz @ 1550 FPS.

FWIW the 870 Express jamming is typically caused by rough, unpolished chambers (cost cutting measure) and is a 20 minute fix for a DIY with a brake hone and some steel wool. I have had 5 of the Expresses and after the polish of the chamber, they have all been good to go. If I get an 870, this is the first thing that I do to the gun.

Not a fan of the Nova at all. Had one for all of one week when they first came out. Big, bulky, heavy, & jammed at the worst times. However, this is my experience with one Nova. YMMV.

The run out of ammo excuse. While it can happen, it's your own fault. What if your bud runs out of ammo and he's shooting 3" and you got 3.5" ? Dang now he's a bird watcher...

Plenty of choices out there.....

Btw, welcome to PM ,rth....

Very valid points. It's definitely something to consider. Is it really that hard to make an affordable 3.5" gun that won't jam a ton
wink.gif
anyway....I was at a local big five store and I saw the supernova but didnt have a chance to hold it. I can honestly say at first glance that the fit and finish was bars over the super mag. It actually looks like a benelli
wink.gif
I know I can't go wrong with an older 3" wingmaster but I love shooting 3.5" shells. Ugghh! Why does it have to be so difficult... I know it's just a gun, but it puts food in mine and my families mouth. Gotta bit of final deciding to make.

I myself just have a few cases of 3.5" steel so I shoot them casue its what Ive got. Bit overkill but the price was right and Im a cheap [beeep] when it comes to some things.

Still cant find myself a Wingmaster to add to my collection.

EPH, are you looking at black or camoed ones ? The camo versions will take care of any rusting problems....

noobie, the 870 WM are not to hard to find here, but most all are fixed choke (old ones). The ones with Rem chokes are much harder to locate.

Tim- Black. I'm religious when it comes to keeping my guns oiled so its not much of a concern to me. Plus, I'm to cheap to pay for the camo. I do it myself if and when i decide to "camo" them. I've only done one of my guns that way(Saiga 410) and it turned out great!

Noobie- I was on gunbroker.com earlier in the week and saw 2 or 3 old 870 WM's with rem chokes....may want to check it out before the get snatched
