Beretta 390?

Got a buddy who has the Beretta 390 shotgun and we want to know what to do about a sling. He has the stud in the stock but seeing the cap has a bolt on the inside of the cap I dont see drilling and tapping the cap as an option. What do you recommend? Or can you drill and tap the cap?
 
The pre fab caps were not available when I wanted to outfit mine for a sling so I had the cap drilled and added the sling stud.
