Bering optics

People tend to complain when they don't get good service from a company so I want to give a shout out to Bering optics. I had an issue with my Super Hogster and sent it back a few months ago but it still had an issue so I sent it back again. Today I got a new replacement from Bering. It is the newer version the A3.

That's good to hear. I have 2 scopes of theirs, one is just out of warranty and if you plug a power source into the USB port, like a computer to download videos, it shuts off. I was wondering what, if anything, they would do and how much it would cost. Did you guys call or email?

204 sounds like your computer doesn't recognize the Bering optic, does the USB port on the computer "see" other media. Do you have another Bering unit to try with the computer?

No even an external battery pack shuts it off. Sometimes it will run on it for awhile but not very long.
I had a Super Yoter that would shut off with external power anytime I turned on the WiFi and connected with my phone. I was finally able to get it to work with the internal batteries to get my videos. Not sure if that would correlate with connecting to a computer, but worth a try if you haven't already. I sold my Yoter, but still have a Super Hogster that has now decided it won't turn on at all unless I have internal batteries in it.

What kinds of issues were you guys having with your Bering thermals? I've had super hogster for a little over 4 years and it's been awesome, literally have killed hundreds of coyote's with it. But last night I had my first issues, whenever i shot the unit would turn off, I was still able to get a double on first and only stand but both times I shot the unit shut off immediately.

Main problem was the shutter would stick, and other little problems. Don't get me wrong I really like the scope

SuperD, you most likely have a bad usb-c port on the scope if you are using an aux battery pack. Did you have batteries in the scope as well? The usb-c port is a weak link and I believe the newer scopes come with the magnetic connector like the Super Yoter LRF has.

negative on the batteries, in the entirety of me owning this scope it has had batteries in it for maybe 15 minutes, because thats all the longer they lasted when its -20 out. Can the USB port be replaced? Any tricks to keep it running for the remainder of this winter before it gets shipped in for repair.

It can be replaced. The batteries should keep the scope from cutting off. If you get the extended battery case for 16650 batteries to replace the 123's, you should be able to make your hunts okay. I use them. They are rechargeable and do quite well for me, but I don't deal with temps like you have. Even the 123's should keep the scope from turning off at the recoil. You can off course check your usb-c cable, but it is almost always the port gets worn and loose. If you send it in, then you may want to pay the extra and get them to install the magnetic port. You can get either a 1 ft. magnetic cable or 3 ft. included with the magnetic port.

Here is a link to the extended battery pack with batteries and charger.

Thanks for the info, do they make extenders that use 18650's as i have a pile of those for that i use for my headlamp and my scanner ? Any other MFG's that make these battery extenders that are cheaper or you get what you pay for with these ?

I’ve been running a Super YOTER R for about 3 years. I use an Aker aux battery that I take out of the case to charge every morning while my guns in the safe. When I head out I install it and plug in the usb cord. This powers up the scope without pressing the power button. I found out that sometimes after 3 or 4 shots off the tripod the usb plug works out from recoil and the scope shuts down. Now after I plug in the usb and the scope comes on, I shut it back down, then power it back up making it start up on the internal batteries. Then I turn on the aux power. Now if you unplug the power cord it will stay on with the internal batteries. Hope that makes sense.

Yes......keep batteries in it, even while running an external battery

I wouldn't have them install the magnetic one. Then you are restricted to using only a magnetic cable, which aren't as common. They make a magnetic adapter that plugs into a USB-C port. Then you can use either or.

I run a battery compartment extender with 16650s on a Super Yoter. 2 pair keep me going all night in sub-freezing temperatures. I messed with a battery pack for a while, and the hassle mounting it out of the way, and managing the cord, and making sure it doesn't come unplugged, and I don't damage the port, was a pain. I really enjoy the 16650s.

I tried the magnetic hub that just plugs into the usb-c port. Perhaps, I didn't get a high enough quality one, but it was weak in comparison to the magnet in the Bering cable. I don't even use it now except when I run my left-handed 22-250 bolt action. The 16650-extender cap interferes with the bolt on my left-hand Savage. Not a problem with an AR or a right-hand bolt action.
