Hey guys I am just wondering what he best brand of AR-15 is? Can you mix and match parts say the upper and lower halves? If so you could peice together a great rifles with all the best parts.
Olympic arms seem to have hte best prices, but do you get what you pay for? Ussually this is the case with guns and ammo.
Anyone with an AR-15 please tell me what brand it is what bullets and loads you use with barrell length and all the important specks please. Thanks fellas.

in the AR world, they are all about the same unless you go custom. Every company except oly, merely buy parts from a pool of vendors and assemble them. I have 4 AR's 1 RRA 24" 1/8 chambered in 223 wylde that shoots better than I can. 1 J&T 20" expedition upper on an RRA NM lower shoots just inside MOA, 1 Tromix custom 20" chambered in 458 SOCOM that shoots minute of black bear (Actualy about 1 MOA) and a custom dtech upper on another RRA NM lower 22" SUM fluted chambered in 25 WSSM. Nothing wrong with model 1, J&T, OLY is very good also plus they carry a lifetime warranty.

Oly is a good brand. When you go more expensive on the AR platform you are usually paying for a rollmark. Olympic and Colt make most of their parts in-house(barrels and internals). RRA, BM, and most others buy from secondary vendors for barrels and eternal parts etc. Don't drink the AR15.com koolaid. Research, research, research and make your own conclusions. This board has a pretty good cross section of AR owners who will give you an honest answer without being nasty about other brands. Check out DPMS and Stag Arms as well as some of the DIY websites like model one sales. The build it yourself forum at AR15.com helps alot if you decide to go that route.
OA2.org is an Olympic Arms owner site and they will steer you right if you decide to go Oly.
I have an Olympic Arms K-16. 16" bull barrel, shooting Black Hills Red Box 60gr. very accurate. I love my Oly.

I would have to recommend DPMS, RRA, or D-Tech. All the major mfger's get their parts from the same folks. Some are just put together with better QC than others. The barrel and trigger make all the difference in my opinion.

D-tech uses Olympic Arms SUM barrels and so far everybody on this board who has one raves about their accuracy so there must be somthing there huh? If you like the Bushmaster rollmark, spend your money on a fine well machined AR from Bushmaster. If you like the RRA rollmark, spend your money on a fine well machined AR from RRA. If you want to have a couple coins left over for a good piece of glass after your purchase to go with a fine well machined AR take a good look at Olympic Arms. Big three owners: Relax, it's all good. Now, have some of this kool-aid /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Nothing wrong with Olympic? You have got to be kidding me, they are too dog gone cheap and they shoot too good for nothing not to be wrong with them. If something sounds to good to be true, it usually is. So you need to watch out by buying an Olympic product, you may like it so well you end up with a whole safe full.

Greetings, I have to soundly agree with SteveM. Best barrel and trigger group, then NM. type assembly, and if you're going to hunt keep the 20" barrel. Lately I have been using Bushmaster, because the quality now, reminds me of the older Colts.(ie) XM16 E1

I have alot of trigger time on my personally owned 20" Colt HB Match, M16A1s, and my issued 14.5" Bushmaster M4. I've had my Colt for 15 years now and have worked with Bushy M4s for 11 years. Zero problems out of the Colt and only one problem that was easy to fix on the Bushmaster (2 rifles, same problem-loosened gas carrier key). I ordered a 11 1/2" Bushmaster upper for an M16A1 once and had nothing but problems with jamming. Not a QC issue, just not enough gas pressure impulse to reliably function to stake my life on. I have a Model 1 Sales 16" lightweight I swap out when I don't feel like carrying the beast also. No problems yet.

Out of the two I would say Colt first, Bushmaster second. Sorry no experience with any other.

Note:
I would have ordered Colts instead of Bushmasters if the completion time would have been sooner, but don't regret the decision.
