Federal Gold Medal Match is the "King" of the 308's that everyone sets it standards by, or so I told. What is the "King" of the 223 ammo? Most fastest, most accurate, most everything. Cost, no problem. Just the best since a pocket on a shirt. Kill'em dead right there ammo. Whats the best? Oh ya, reloads don't count. Factory stuff only. Inquiring minds want to know. Please don't tell me its the 45gr. Winnie white box.

what no handloads???? federal makes 55 g. nosler ballistic tips for reasonable price..... black hills and huntin shack.. to name a few... lots of good 223 factory rds. out there...

IN MY OPINION and I'm sure there will be many varied opinions. If I have to shoot factory ammo out of a 223 I always grab Black Hills 55gr. soft point. They have been consistently the most accurate in my rifles. As to fastest and most deadly,I will defer to others thoughts on that.

There isn't one. Factory ammo is just that. FGMM is good stuff, so is Black Hills. In some guns Winny White Box will out shoot them. Handloading is where it's at.........

I agree there ain't one.

What may shoot great from my rifle may shoot like crap in yours. I've got one AR that does shoot the Winny 45gr stuff really good. That same ammo out of a bolt rifle I own, not so good. Then things swap with Black Hill 52gr hp's.

There's no way to wring the potential out of a firearm except for hand loading. My handloads in my Edge shoot < .7" with remarkable consistency, but would suck out beyond 400 yards on a coyote. A 69gr MatchKing is great at distance, but just doesn't have the explosion that my VMaxs have. The .223 is a compromise cartridge, and as a result your question is impossible to answer even if handloads were included.

Case in point:

I have a 308 that shot .5-.75" groups with factory Federal loads. Better than I expected from a levergun. For a couple years, I didn't bother handloading for it. Was pretty satisfied how it was. When the factory stuff ran out, I tried a handload. First handload I tried printed .5". I have shot a couple 3/8" groups with it. Never woulda thunk it. Now I'm definitely satisfied.

Most would have settled on the Federal load and called it good. I've settled on my only handload. Who knows, it could shoot even better............

In my .223 AR it's Hornady factory "Varmint Express" 55 gr. V-Max. I doubt it's the "fastest" or "kills everything DRT", but it's as accurate as anything I can develop in a handload. For me, that's the biggest factor in killing something.

Federal Gold Metal Match is also loaded in .223, but both rounds are "match" loads, not really hunting loads. Sure they will kill stuff, but not really designed for hunting. As the guys have said, if you don't reload, white box Winchester shoots good in a lot of guns. There are a lot of Mfg's with good .223 ammo, but I'm loading a 60 gr v-max for use in my AR, and it is very accurate....and deadly.

The best bullets? I would say Bergers for targets Hornady v max for varmints and Nosler Partition for big game of course everybody has their own opinion.

I know every gun has different tastes, but I have shot black hills red box 50 gr v-max's out of three different guns and it shoots better than I can. Maybe I just got lucky and my guns like the stuff.
