i have a tc venture looking at what is the best bullet to load for coyotes out to 300+ currently using fiocchi 40gr, tried some 45 gr hornady, they shot ok but not as good as the 40gr, my plan is to shoot the remainder of the factory ammo then reload,so any info would be great

I like the 32 grain Nosler ballistic tip, benchmark powder, and CCI 450 primers. The ballistic tip is the only 32 grain 204 bullet with a boat-tail that I am aware of and they are better in wind, it does blow in Nebraska.

Now mind you I've never even shot at a coyote with a 204 but when I was considering it the only bullet anybody seem to recommend was the 35 Berger hollow point and a 39 Blitzking.

35 grain Bergers work very very well! Shot one not long ago at 356 yds. in about a 5 mile an hour wind. Bullet drifted about 5" from left to right. She was laying down and the bullet caught her in the left jugular, she managed to get up on her front legs only and then fell over dead! I like my Bergers!

I only shot them with a factory 32 grain V Max when I had my first 204 but since that time my buds have slain several truck loads with the 39 grain Blitzking, I have witnessed quite a few killed with these bullets and they are pure death.

I just got another 204 and will be trying 32 grain Blitzkings, 39 grain Blitzkings and 40 grain V-Maxs/Ballistic Tip. Whichever shoots best will be my coyote bullet.

I do like the solid base on the Ballistic Tip, seems to get through most coyotes in 22 caliber so I bet they would act the same in a 20 caliber.

When the 204 came out I bought a Ruger bolt, had a AR upper made, and bought a 28" pro Hunter barrel for my encore. Tried 32s, 35s, 39's, 40s, 45s. All shot sub MOA in all 3 guns with right loads. The 35 Bergers and the 45 soft point hornadys were the only ones I didn't have splash with. I no longer have any 204s. It is a great caliber, but not for me on coyotes. I am program from years of calling to shoot the front shoulder and 204 don't do well on bone. But if I was going to pick the best bullet for coyotes it would be the 45 hornadys soft point.

I shot te 35 grain Bergers for about 1.5 years and didn’t like the inconsistency that I had. I’d shoot them in the chest and some of them you couldn’t find the bullet hole. The next one would blow a hole in em the size of a softball. You never knew what they would do. It’s a fabulous prairie dog rifle but it doesn’t go calling with me.

My experience with the 35 grain Berger is just the opposite. My wife has been shooting it since the 204 came out. Nice small holes unless you hit the shoulder. Put in the vitals and the bullet is outstanding. A shoulder shot with just about any bullet is going to make a big hole when it hits bone.

I liked the 35 grain Bergers or the 45 grain horandy soft points. I was always worried about the smaller bullets in v-max and the like, but seems plenty shoot them and to just fine.
