best call sequence

Im just getting into calling for coyotes and have most of the essentials. Im in upstate NY and curious to see what is working best at bringing them in. I have a foxpro and was wondering what sequence of calls and how long are you letting them play for. Also, are you using the same techniques for night and day? Is there anything that should NOT be being used and would spook them at this time? Thanks for any and all info.

This has been helping me call in a lot of bobcats lately, my shooting and other mishaps are whats them not dying.

15 mins aggressivebobcat then

1 min interval changes between aggressive bobcat and raspy woodpecker, for another 15 mins.

I have called in a lot of bobcats and one coyote that way. Again, my crappy hunting skills are why Im not posting pictures.

PACK BATTERIES!!!!!

im curious to see some input on this as well im used to going out with buddies that use hand calls but I just bought a flextone echo and i dont wanna ruin prime hunting ground because I dont know what im doing with it

Check out this post. Obviously these sounds work or people would not vote for them.

I usually play the sound at 1/2 volume depending on conditions and play continuously until I leave which maybe 10 minutes or over an hour just depends on what I am after and how I feel about the spot.
I almost always start with a distress of some sort bird or rabbit because it will call every predator whereas if you start with bobcat/coyote sounds you could be limiting your appeal to only a certain predator.

I have the Echo... and love it...

If I were you... I'd do this for starters...but for coyotes only...forget the howls if your after other critters... and for bobcats... let distress run for at least a full 30 mins or more... mostly birds..

let the female coyote howl twice...then quiet 1 min... then once more... quiet 1 min... (full volumne)

after those 2 mins... run snowshoe or jackrabbit or ringneck pheasant in distress for 30 secs... at full vol... then wait for 1 min...

after those 3 1/2 mins... repeat distress sequence for 1 min...and wait for 30 secs this time... but with 2 notches of less volumne...

then run pup in distress for 15 secs...full vol... then quiet for 30 secs...

then distress again... same type or maybe something a tad softer like mouse or bird... for 2 mins at half vol... then quiet for 1 min...

then pup in distress again for 30 secs... then quiet for 1 min or more...

if nothing comes by then.... move and or forget my sequence stuff and get your money back...LOL...

Thanks for the help. Just received my kill light today and cant wait to try it this weekend along with this info.
Anyone else from the upstate NY area?

Brian,

Try the Calling in the East forum. There is a ton of tips and tactics for the eastern coyote. Andrew Lewand roams those parts and he's a PRO. He has a few books on the subject as well. His screen name is bhw.

There is also a NYS Coyote Hunter thread as well.

I have the utmost respect for the eastern predator hunter. Those who think they can bag a coyote back east like they can in the west are sadly mistaken. Not only are the numbers lower, they ARE tougher to call as well. Yes, I know from experience. The good news, however, are the Fox opportunities you'll get when you're calling for coyotes.

I rambled enough. Welcome to PM, you'll love it here.
