Best DVD to learn with??

Are you wanting a DVD to teach you how to blow a calla dn what it should sound like? Or a DVD to teach you the art of calling coyotes (scouting, set up, etc)?

BruceB, people will say what they will. There are tons of DVD's on how and when to call coyotes. Bill Martz of Wildlife Technologies has a very good tutorial on that subject. The DVD I'm refering to is titled "Coyotes". IMO it is one of the better DVD's. Take a look at it, you may learn something. Like I said, this is just my opinion.

I agree with the Deafman, wildlife tech's coyote has to be one of the better educational videos! say what you will, but I have seen alot of the others and they are not as in depth about coyote behavior as Wt's!!!!

The all time great though, if you can get a hold of it is

"Interview with a Coyote"

You have to see the FB Rodeo too. It might be on the same CD.

You just ain't a coyote hunter if you don't own a copy of "Interview with a Coyote". Old Tank tells it like it is, right from the horses....er....coyotes mouth.

callin in the east back to basics the one with brent saxton hands down. has good stuff that can be applied anywhere.

Amen to that. Couldn't have said it better myself.
Brent walks you through , step by step, scouting, locating, stand selsction and set up. Even shows you how to talk coyote. Definatly not a bang flop film, but full of usefull information for the beginner that can be applied anywhere.

Lord I apologize for that right up there and please be with the starving pygmy's.

Byron South has four DVD's out Coming to the Call. Great watchin'. He also has an instructional dvd, with Rod Haydel, in a predator call/ howler starter kit. Good info, on getting started, distress sounds, howling and some awesome footage of a fifty pounder!! I must add that Byron has my favorite coyote footage of the coyote jumping through the fence. Awesome footage. IMHO

Rich Higgins has some good in front of you coyote footage in Up Close and Personal. I was priveleged to have some teasers along, alot of close footage, where the attitude of the coyote is plainly seen. Not for sure you can wear a dvd out, but the wife thinks I'm trying.

Jay Niestetter's Coyote Behavior & Interview With a Coyote is a must have especially if you have children, My six year old daughter and the two year old daughter can quote it almost word for word, and have some line that they say to each other and just break out laughing. Good stuff.

Texas Predator Pursuit(sp?) They did alot of my favorite, just let'em keep coming if they will. Good Watchin'

I have got most of Randy Anderson and both of the Operation Predator 1&2, and looking forward to the third. There are more good ones out there that I am missing, but my point is, I just seem to be a junkie on coyote hunting, can't get enough. I try and buy every dvd I can on coyotes and coyote hunting. It sure helps the ol' learning curve to just hit the rewind and watch the coyotes response again & again.

One thing I have learned on this sport, the longer you have a coyote in front of you, whether in the field or on the tube, the more of a chance you have to learn something.
If you do your part and pay attention.

Buy all you can afford, and good luck.

I agree with pup, buy as many as you can. All have something of interest and any footage of coyotes has the potential to educate and the probabability to entertain. If you can afford only one at this time I would recommend "Calling in the East Back to Basics"
It's interesting that two of the guys recommended WT's "Coyotes". I enjoy talking with Bill Martz and he did invest some money in this video and the production values are first class, however there were quite a few statements made that were incorrect and misleading. The video was essentially a 90 minute commercial for the WT caller and strangely enough all the sounds used to call the coyotes on the video were removed. ??? There were no musicals made in the silent movie era for a very good reason.

I am not sure if it is available in DVD format, but Ed Sceery's "The Science of Predator Calling" and "The Guide to using Predator Calls" should be first on the list for a beginning coyote hunter, and maybe for the rest of us too. He is an Animal Scientist and covers the true basics of setting up and using the calls effectively. I might note that he is in direct opposition to what some of the popular DVD makers who are so popular today say in regard to using the wind. He makes great calls and surely knows his stuff. If you learn how to hunt coyotes with hand calls, and learn it well, it will make you a more successful coyote hunter when you graduate to electronic callers or a combination of both.

BruceB,
There have been some very good options listed here for you. I might add that if you can find somebody in your area who is an experienced Coyote hunter, the learning curve goes up really quick. There's nothing like having somebody with you who's done it before. They will point out things while you're in the field to pay attention to that you might not be thinking about. Read and watch all you can, but get out there with somebody who's done it before if you can. I wish you the best the sport has to offer.

I like WT's and Byron South's. I have spent many hours talking to Dr. Martz and would welcome the chance to talk to Byron South. Their videos are great! Randy Anderson's are good too.
