I recently won a new Savage axis 22-250 rifle in a coyote calling contest, and I would like to know what the best factory load is to buy and shoot through the gun, and where is the best place to buy?

Thanks, Jake

you never know what one gun to another will shoot. If I had to by some factory loaded ammo I would probaly go with Hornady v-max loads in that 22-250...Jason

As stated, you wont know until you try a few different brands, grains,styles...My savage 22-250 likes federal 55gr power points, blue box.Among others.Have fun..

All my Savage 22-250s loved the v-max but I switched to some Federal factory loaded Sierra Game Kings, 55 grains a few weeks back. I was getting a few more flop, drop, get up and runs. They seem to put Them down a little better. They shoot great too. I am buying reloading equipment so I may go to the heavier v-max to see how they do. They are too accurate to give up!!!

The only couple of boxes of factory ammo that ever went through mine was for break-in and to get me a little brass, but I was impressed with both Hornady 55 V-MAX's (not superperformance stuff, just the originals), and that cheap white box Winchester ammo... the 45gr JHP's that are rated at 4,000 fps. Well, I didn't get 4,000 - but they did chrono at 3,850 out of my 24" 1 in 12 Savage barrel, and good accuracy.

Not a Savage, but my 700 SPSV loved all what these guys are saying. Hornady 55gr Vmax (not Superformance) and the Winchester 45gr HP white box stuff. Both shot equally good, hard to beat 40rds of 22.250 for 28 bucks. Save the brass, the Win brass is nice.

like previously posted every rifle is different but in your testing different factory loads and you being in sd check out some black hills ammo had a buddy shoot nothing but and he loved it.

which contest did you win the gun in?

2+ on the Black Hills Ammo. Have used several different loads and its all loaded to very tight specs. Shot great for me!
