Something that works together with a glass bedding kit and should be done at the same time is a set of pillars. You can buy special pillars that are made from aluminum or stainless. You will need to install them into the stock before doing the action bedding. The pillars give a good consistent place for the trigger guard assembly screws to tighten down against without any wood crushing problems.

You should be able to order a pillar bedding kit from Brownells at the same time you order an AcraGlas bedding kit. The AcraGlas kit comes as a standard runny formula or as a thicker Gel type. Go with the thicker Gel kit because it makes the process a lot easier for the beginner.

As a first timer you should probably address it as a 3 step process.
First, properly install the stainless pillars using AcraGlas Gel. Let it set up for 24 hours.
Second, relieve some wood from the small area at the rear of the receiver where the rear action screw is located and bed that small area.
Third, relieve and bed the front area right around the recoil lug.

Definitely get a good set of instructions before starting any actual work. If you do it wrong you could glue the receiver to the stock and not be able to get them apart.
Take it slow and careful.

I used 2 part epoxy for my first bed job. It costs about $2.50 at Walmart. Get the 2,500 lbs. stuff. Its real runny, so I just got some fiberglass insulation and mixed some with it to make a paste. It worked very well. That is how I plan to do my next bedding job too.

The acraglass kits are excellent, and idiot proof, definatly the best way to learn. Now i,ve done a few, i,m switching to devcon, because its a better compound, and a little easier to use imo.

For a first time bedding job, maybe the best route to go is with a Brownell's, or similar kit. The instructions that come with the Brownell's kit are worth the kit price. After that, you can go it alone.
Since bedding my first rifle in 1960, I've bedded a large number of rifles. Acraglass is my first choice, but I've read from some honest guys that the Midway kit is great too. I've never used it.
I have done a dozen 22 Rimfires using JB Weld, which seems to be holding up in that application. Probably would go with the Acraglass Gel, or equivalent, for centerfires.

The best i have used is the Brownell Accu-Glass Gel Kits. I buy the shop kits. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Another here for Acra-Glas from Brownell's. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
Get the gel in the green box; it stays where you put it.
When applying... Don't skimp on the release agent!

The Score high kit is nice. Easy to use,get a first rate job. The epoxy also flows nice and blends well with the wood if you use the brown. Comes with detailed instructions and you can look at the ones online also. The pillars are adjustable and contoured to the Remington action.
