Best paint for a camo job?

I am planning on giving a gun a homemade camo job. I am wondering what is the best. I am thinking epoxy paint due to the fact that I will be painting the entire gun, barrel, scope and all. I have done a couple plastic stocks with krylon. They turned out great. Just wanted you guy's opinion on the kind of paint and any other tips you may have.

It's a blued barrel and a matte finish on the scope. FYI.

I use Krylon primer, then flat Krylon paint. I paint my rifle twice a yr. Brown for Fall, White for Winter snow.

BTW, how is your child doing?

my 6DTI in Carnimore sand tiger paint job...rustoleum and model paint...rustoleum clear matte...good to go.

IDK lol, its spelled differently???

I imagine if its not, its close

denatured and rubbing I believe they are both isopropyl (sp), I also really like citrus degreaser by a company called "pedro's"...available at most mountain bike shops.

to the OP : I've used both Krylon and Rustoleum and if prepped correctly (non-chlorine brake cleaner, primer, no finger prints) they both work fine.

I have since moved on to Cerakote however.

I like Brownells Aluma-Hyde 2 paint.
Why....it stays dull longer with use, and if you are cleaning
your gun, no paint is removed from areas of solvent contact.
Not a big deal but if you want it painted permanent, this is the paint.

Thanks for all the info guys. I am hoping to get started this weekend, or maybe the first of the week if I get busy with other projects. I'll try to get some pics up when I get 'er done.

Denatured alcohol isn't isopropyl. It's ethyl alcohol(booze) that's been denatured with an agent such as acetone or toluene to make it undrinkable.

Kirby's right. Prime it first and it will last longer. After you wipe it down, scuff it with some steel wool to give the primer a mechanical bond. I guess all the years and wasted brain cells that 10 years as a painting contractor cost me was worth at least something

Rubbed down both synthetic and metals with a paint thinner, let air dry, sprayed with a complete coat of flay tan, then added colors.

Krylon is good stuff and has been taking all the cleaning products that has been thrown at the gun.

they are different products, if you choose rubbing alcohol, get the 91% variety. Any paint or hardware store will have denatured.

I've been using the camo paint from H.S. Strutt for several years only because a can will do a bunch of guns. I use black, brown, olive and tan and of course white for snow camo. Only thing I don't like about the H.S. Strutt paint is it takes 3 or 4 days to dry completly. But after that it's pretty durable. The newest paint I'm using is the black webbing paint from Krylon. It looks great! Here are some I've done.
