best scope for my 270?

I need to buy a different scope for my Howa 270 and was wondering what everyone would think would be a good scope for this caliber? Dont plan on shooting past 500 yards with it and would like to stay under a $1000. Not much of turret fan would rather have slash marks or hold over marks drop charts whatever you wana call em.

This gun is purely a deer, elk and simliar sized game gun if it matter any.

What magnification range would you like to stay in? How do you like the Nikon Monarch?

Looking for a scope in like the 4-16 or somewhere round in that range. I have the monarch on my 204 and cant really say anything bad about it. I just kinda like trying new things every once in awhile.

2MG might have a good deal for you there. I was going to suggest the Viper HS 2.5-10 w/ BDC. They're around half your budget, that way you can stock up on some ammo or buy another gun

Ive just got a nikkon pro 4x12 on mine, but maybe a buckmaster. Im ok with my prostaff

There's no problems with the ProStaff, for sure. I just prefer the Buckmaster. The Nikon ProStaff is certainly the top of the "budget" line optics.
