best seat

Im using a 3 legged blind chair with a tripod set up. Im too old to go all the way on the ground. makes getting up a breeze. Light weight & cammoed it myself. I do more siting than calling. I almost don't even call anymore because of the local pressure.

Welcome to PM.

A lot of the areas I hunt are sandy soil. Tried the three legged stools first but 2nd time a leg broke through into a gopher hole and nearly dumped me in a cactus patch, I opted for a folding youth chair I found @ Academy. Light weight and a little camo netting on my sticks provides a very stable platform and a bit of cover as well.

I use a kneeling pad to sit on. It keeps my backside dry and it’s easy to pack. I tend to hike a lot so I don’t like to have any unnecessary weight.

I use many different things while calling coyotes. I’ll often just sit directly on the ground. I have a padded cushion that I often bring along. A comfortable chair is sounding more inviting than it did a few years ago. The downside to a chair is that it can elevate you and make you easier for coyotes to spot on some stands and it can sometimes make it difficult to reposition for a shot when a coyote comes from an unexpected direction.

Fortunately, the flat brush country I hunt has sufficient low brush to break up your outline, and in fact make a slightly elevated position a must for the most part. Talk about difficult to reposition from a chair, you oughta see me attempting to get up without a chair!

My thick foam pad is great for several applications, It has a short strap with a snap/hook to attach to my backpack, or a belt loop. Keeping my butt dry, and warm.
A Turkey Thug. Has been a great choice for a chair that only lifts you a couple inches off the ground. Works for shotgunning which it was designed for, but I have used it being armed with rifles and pistols. It comes in camouflage.
Edit: Forgot to add the chair folds up duh,,, of course...... A strap that is attached keeps it folded up,,,And has a carrying handle.

It's a darn shame they quit making the Critter Sitter. Best chair/pack I've used. It will be a sad day when mine wears out.

I have back and hip problems from time to time. I bought and used 2 leg round bar stools, 2 kinds of 3 leg type chairs, 4 leg stool, Stadium seat type, Hunting pads and Hot Seats. Along with Mono pods, shooting sticks and Bipods of various heights to accommodate my height while using them. They are all good and they all suck.

Sitting on a pad is nice, but you need back support, in powder snow its bad, and try getting up after 30mins, Plus the height for seeing in rolling farm country sucks, especially at night.

Chairs and stools on uneven ground with or without snow is a real joy, plus the added weight/ noise.

Standing seems to be the best for night time hunting but after a long day of work and or walking into stands back and legs sore, so I end up kneeling which is the best of both, until my legs fall asleep. Which is always a good site to see when I try getting up.

Just like Mono pods, Shooting Sticks, Bipods and Tripods and tripods with shooting plat forum.. Try carrying adjustable Tripods walking in at night and you spot eyes, You think you have time to set it up.

Besides I always like standing near the pool table.

I mostly night hunt, normally stay on stand minimum 20 minutes so I use a glorified lawn chair from Columbia which has carry handles and a fold up tray With a cup holder I can put my caller or scanner in. I usually don’t have to worry about getting back doored so I use a tripod which I can pick up with one hand very easily if need be. I normally don’t have to walk more than 3-400 yds so no problem and very comfortable. The difference between ground level and chair level is huge, but I’m not gonna stand for 20 or more minutes even though I’m sure it’s even better. Put the caller on ,sit back and relax and scan away till I get a bite. Sorta like fishing. Daytime I have a seat cushion with a backrest and go off sticks and don’t move.
