Best Shell Holder for Reloading

I have another question for you veteran reloaders. What is your brand of choice for shell holders? I am looking for quality since price doesn't really appear to be that much different between the major brands. I have a RCBS Rockchucker press. What has worked best for you?

All of the shell holders are about the same - they ALL have the same measurement from the face to the top of the holder (0.125")... Redding is the best machined and finished - the old Bonanza (discontinued) is the best design.

If you use RCBS priming tools, they will probably need RCBS shell holders - my RCBS bench priming machine won't work with other makes of shell holders.

Catshooter,

Are you saying that I will have to get RCBS shell holders since I have a RCBS press? The Redding won't interchange? I was debating on a Redding set but if it won't fit my press, then I'll go a different route.

No... all regular presses, Rockchuckers etc, All C-H, all Redding, etc, use the "Standard shell holder" - they snap in place and are designed to be interchangable.

So a Redding press can use RCBS shell holders, and a RCBS press can use C-H shell holders, etc...

But the inside hole is slightly different in some.

If you use a separate RCBS priming machine, bench mounted or press mounted, and it takes shell holders, you must use RCBS shell holders for the priming machine, or the plunger won't fir in the hole.

I hope that is clear - if not ask me again and I'll try to explain it better.

I think I understand. The press itself is universal, but the inside holes of the shell holder varies depending on brand. If I did decide to go with Redding shell holders, I would need Redding dies and a Redding brand priming tool to assure they would work together. Right?

Nope...

If you go with Redding shell holders, you can use them with RCBS, Lyman, C-H4D, Forster, etc dies.

If you use any of the following priming tools:

... then you MUST use RCBS shell holders with the above tools. But everything else is interchangeable.

How am I doing this time /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

With the Co-Ax press you do not need shell holders and the Co-Ax holds the case better than any shell holder.

Yep!!!!!!!! +1 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I match my shellholder with the dies I use. If dies are RCBS I use an RCBS shellholder. If they're Redding, than I go with the Redding shellholder. Really it doesn't matter that's just my way of doing it.
