Best single stage AR trigger

I am installing a Jard right now. It is a little difficult to install and adjust, but not out of the realm of the typical AR home builder. It is available with a 2 lb spring and the overtravel is adjustable, so it ends up being a pretty good trigger. All my other experience is with 2-stage so this will be interesing for me.

Had a Chip McCormick and replaced it with a Timney. They are honestly both about the same and both pretty good. The Timney on my son's AR might be a little better than mine. Timney says they have to have just a little take-up for the AR. This may be the reason they were having some double tapping before--they didn't say. The single stage triggers do make the AR feel a little more familiar to us old bolt action guys. tt

Fast Ed, be careful yer not too use to the two stage. Not accusing you or anyone of being an idiot, but, I did see a few guys go back to a normal trigger from a release trigger on a trap gun and do some pretty scary stuff! You said 2#'s on Jard, holy hefferdust thats too light for me! I'd be too scared with that. Like atleast 3# and not much more.

What does that mean? Also, whats a little bit of take up? Thats one of the main reasons I'm replacing my original R-15 trigger. Don't need two that are close to being the same!
Thanks you guys

JWG:

Timney had some triggers that would allow two shots in one pull ala full auto. They had to go back to the drawing board and have since corrected the problem. The "take up" is not like a two stage trigger and I won't say it's creep but I notice it off the bench. I never seem to notice under hunting conditions so it's not severe. I'm just a little anal (OK,very anal) about my triggers. Others may not even notice it. The Chip McCormick trigger did the same thing.

I will say that either one is head and shoulders above the RR NM trigger that came on my son's AR. Hope this makes sense and is helpful.

I really like my Timney. Especially on a hunting AR. I don't know if it's the "best" but I'm very happy with it.

Can't say I notice any creep. Have experienced zero malfuntions so far. Breaks like a glass rod.

Good hunting

I put a RRA nat'l match trigger on a Bushmaster and have a smith installed Jewel on my Colt. The Jewel is a much better trigger at about twice the cost. If your looking for an adjustable trigger comparable to a nice trigger on your bolt gun the jewel would be great. I have Timney's on other guns and have been happy with them.

What about a JP? I see Timney is the choice easily so far, like I said, just wondering about some others.
clayman90, I saw the CMC's on a recall. Wonder what happened?

My Chip Mccormick had all kinds of creep! Sent it back and am waiting on my Timney fron Dan Carey!
He seems to like them and said i'll probably be calling it the future to order two more!

I like the Timney and the J&P. The Timney just drops in, the J&P has to be fitted, but you can change the springs for different pull weights, and seems a tad "crisper" than the Timney. J&P triggers include a video and good instructions.

sick1, I'm getting the JP. Used a guys today and I bout died! His was a bit light(2 3/4#'s). I'll go for about 3 #'s. Best part is hes put a few in! He's doin it, so I can't wait! Like to hear more about JP
