Best Small SUV?

Considering a small SUV to pull behind a Motorhome. Need something for overall use as other than the Motorhome it would be our only vehicle.

What would be the best combo unit for hunting, roadtrips, etc?

AND WHY!

How much power does the motorhome have? Both of those are mid sized SUV's. I own a 97 4runner, I've owned 3 dozen 4runners and Toyota pickups, and recommend Toyota 4x4's 17 ways from Tuesday, but if you have a smaller motorhome, I'd get a smaller buggie to tow.

As an off road buggie, the Suzuki Sidekick/Tracker is a well engineered little 4x4. Good gears and etc for off road use.

If you're looking for a "car" that has AWD traction and some potential to get on a muddy or otherwise traction compromised road - - but is mostly a car - - I'd look at the Honda CRV, or the Toyota Rav4. (Make sure they're 4x4's, any of these actually. They all produce [beeep] on bulls (2wd) models for some stupid reason!)

I don't know the Honda Element, but I'd look into it too.

Another one I don't know but have heard good things about is the last 2 or 3 years of the Hyundai SUV. They've improved their game by leaps and bounds lately.

If you've got enough HP in the motorhome to pull a mid sized SUV, I'd 110% recommend the 4Runner, or the FJ Cruiser.

Toyota FJ, best unit i have ever owned . it will go places you cannot believe and gets 21 MPG. its just a great calling rig and family car as well .70,000 and not one hickup .i have owned plenty of jeeps , a suzuki as well as 4 runners and toyo pickups , the FJ kicks butt on all of them. i live in the northwest ( plenty of snow and ice , mud etc. ) rarely ever have to use the 4 wheel drive , unreal ground clearance ,4 wheel independent suspension, quite and powerfull .Lots of neat features everyone who has been in mine while out calling wants one LOL. you owe it to yourself to check them out .

Thanks Jerry! Just the kind of specific, first hand info I am always looking for here.

We looked at the FJs yesterday. Really like the head to toe interior space they provide! However, even though they do have a N positition on the T-Case control, the manual states that they are not to be towed. The Jeeps and GMs have a proceedure that allows them to recreationally towed.

I sure wish someone would come with an after market bolt on lock out for front and rear wheels/axels.

Any ideas guys?

Towed a Jeep Cherokee four down for years. The manual transfer case is easy to pull into neutral so you don't have to worry about the transmission.

My understanding is that Toyota will void the warranty if pulled 4 down with or without the drive line disconnect.

We are looking at the Jeep 4 door Wrangler.

Any experience with one?

Have a jeep liberty that has worked really well for us. It's not for big poeple though, it's really comfortable but it is a compact.

The Nissan Pathfinder seems like a sturdy unit - more of a "real" 4wd than some crossovers. Gas mileage ain't that great compared to some, but it has a lot of good hunter-friendly features.

i have a 2000 chevy blazer 210 small easy to handle real 4 wheel and has good v-6 for power and gets about 16 on the road carries a good load is great in snow and off road. would be an easy pull.
