best sounds for red fox

plan to hunt red fox in northern arkansas and soutwestern missouri, know red's are here because i had one in my yard yesterday and i have seen grey's as well.

Right now, that is a difficult call. As you know, foxes haven't shifted into their meat only diet just yet. Food is everywhere still, persimmons, berries, insects.

I believe I would try something of low volume such as mouse squeaks or small birds. You might even try kitten sounds, most Reds enjoy a good "cat killing" just out of pleasure.

As the winter wears on and times toughen up, sound selection for a calls really expands. I've called some beautiful reds here on the East coast using a loud Aggressive Jack sound on my FoxPro, but times were hard, snow on the ground etc.

FoxPro has a sound out called Red Fox Rally that might spark interest out of curiousity. It's simply a gathering bark or territorial sound. Hope this prompts your thought process. I know you are qualified enough to "get r done" if it is possible. It is just tough still yet.

thanks sonny, won't be getting after the red until november the 15 when fur season kicks off.
like you i have a foxpro, plan to download a rodent duet, squealing bird, red fox and cottontail, and a red and gray fight. might even do a prairie dog in distress just to try something no one else is using.
did have a pair of coyotes show up to a gray fox in distress last winter.

Crying kitten would be good as mentioned. Also, I've called them in with a crow call, but it must be made to be a bit whiney at low volume, nothing like a crow. If you can get an older call with the split mouthpiece, you can bite down on that and really change the pitch, sounds like something dying.......when it comes to later in the season around here (Late Jan/early Feb), I make mating barks with a closed reed caller that will bring them in. Early in the season I will also use bird in distress calls as well.....

If that's the case that you are waiting till Nov, then absolutely-positively download FoxPro's MK II Library sound called "Lighting Jack". It along with some other MKII sounds were released last year and Lighting Jack is one of the few MKII sounds that will fit on either the newer FX3&5 models or the older 532 model. It is by far and away the best of their sounds, most realistic. Even though it is labeled a "Jack" sound it works on both species of foxes really-really well. Good luck

When my Dad was a boy. Daylight; He watched a Red run across the park that is along the river, North end of town. Red, ran onto a front porch where a cat was sitting cleaning itself. Cat had it's back towards the Red. Red grabbed that cat by the back of it's neck. Short-time later, Red commenced to drag that [dead]cat back towards the river bottom.
