In your opinion, what do you feel is the best state for calling coyotes?

I live in Colorado and have some success, but it seems like callers from states like Texas and Arizona seem to have very good success.

I would actually like to go on a road trip somewhere and do some calling. Made a trip to the CO/Utah border last fall and got into more dogs than I do where I hunt in CO.

dogcatcher223, that is not easy to answer, many western states have large populations of coyotes. I'd think the amount of land a person can hunt on has alot to do with it. Predator hunting has become so popular nowadays it's hard to find a place that has not been hunted, unless you know somebody with a big ranch.

I'd have to say Arizona is probably the number one spot in the country for coyotes because they have lots of them and lots of land to hunt them on. Texas on the other hand has a ton of coyotes but not much public land.

States like New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, Wyoming and a few others have good populations of coyotes, I'm sure a guy can find hot spots in all of those states. Only one way to find out for sure, GO HUNTING lol and Good Luck. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I've hunted North Dakota extensively (obviously) and a week in Arizona and a few weeks in Montana and i would say that hands down Montana is the best i've seen. Lots of big untouched land that is endless everyone likes to see you knocking at the door for permission to get rid of there sheep killers and there is one big population of coyotes. But thats just my humble opinion. I've heard that Wyoming is the place to go but have yet to make it to Nationals.

I got to go calling for a day in west Texas a couple years ago, we were on one ranch all day, and called in 24 coyotes  . Oooohhh what I'd give to have that out my back door. So, although it was just one day, I'd vote for Texas.

Kalifornia is crawling with coyotes.

They are thick in the desert, mountains, valley, and coast.

There are also a lot of flat ones on the sides of the road. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Nevada is pretty good too.

Are the furs ever nice in places like Texas, AZ or Cali?

I don't believe in killing them and leaving them lay. I like to keep some furs and sell others.

Rich in AZ, lol you be funny. So many people in Victorville and Apple Valley now days, not enough room for a coyote to live. My wife and I are trying to get the heck out of here, we are looking at Ely Nevada. If we move, I'll be sure we got room for some of you Arizona guys to park your hats so you can go hunting.

Shotgun Willy, I have hunted Mexico, Baja and Sonora. Last time was back in 1988, I think we took only 22 coyotes because the truck broke down. My best weekend hunt down there was in 1981 when I took 37 critters and kicked everybodys butt in a contest. I'd have to say Mexico has some outstanding predator hunting if you have alot of money and can put up with all the red tape to hunt there. I don't even know if it can be done now days. Good Hunting.

I'm usually hunting in the State of Confusion, but I don't think that it's the best... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

W@W, I hear some folks do real well near Chi Omega house. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

What about Idaho, we went out this morning. Called in 11 coyotes and got 7 of them in three hours. It's been a good day

Gene'o that is very, very good.
Danny, in the 70s I would occassionally fly up to Victorville, park the plane and call coyotes next to the airport. I used a bow exclusively back then.

I have hunted in Texas , Oklahoma, N.Mex and Colorado. Have to give it to my home state. We have the yotes and it doesn't matter which part of the state you're in. Good populations every where. South Texas and sandhills of West Texas are probably the best.

Rich in AZ, you talking George AFB or Apple Valley AP or did you make your own lol. I never did the bow thing, always seemed to hard to get one that way.

Gene'o, calling in 11 coyotes and getting 7 in three hrs. is real good. Where you in southern Idaho?
