best way to trap weasels

whats the best way to trap weasels and what bait works. i was told to build wooden boxs with a small hole and put a rat trap inside with chicken liver if this works what size is the box and how big is the hole and what bait works best.or is there different ways do trap them. thanks

That is what I do. My boxes are 9" long X 4" wide X 5" high. These are the inside dimensions with the top or lid having a 4" over hang on the front to keep snow out. The hole I have is 2" with the bottom of the hole approx 3" up. I also put a little anise oil as a lure, just dip a q-tip and place in box with bait.

If your talking about short tailed weasels (ermin) a rat trap works. It's just a mouse snap trap on steroids.

get some beef or pork blood in a little squeeze bottle and give a sqirt around the hole..
look for rocky areas with large rocks like a small rock wall is a real good spot to get them..
be sure your boxes are well weathered..

I don't have too many good pics of my boxes but you should get the idea.

Set thew trap with the trigger as close to the hole as possible with the bait in the back. It doesn't hurt to put another hole about an inch or so in the back and cover with hardware cloth. Scent drifts out better that way.
