Best years and model for honda 4x4 quad?

Now that the cat hunting bug has infected me I,m thinking I need a used quad.
Our mts in this area have steep grades followed by semi flat roads in the higher stuff. It would be winter hunting conditions, but in our area that means snow in places and open roads in other spots, and drifted road cuts.

1. I want to stay with Honda.
2. Used.
3. I think that keeping the weight of the unit low as possible is important.
4. fancy means more things to break.
5. Manual shift? no big deal.

Any input on good years and models would be helpful. Thanks

Any of the Honda FourTrax would work if you can find one that's not "Kid Ridden"....

I have a Honda Rancher that is pretty light too. I believe it's an 07 model. I like it better than my old FourTrax...More power.

I have a 2002 Foreman. I just changed the spark plug today. A little over due but that's the 1st thing it's needed since I bought it, besides oil/filter changes. The manual shift is fine with me.

Stay in the early 2000 models. You can find the 4x4 300cc in that year range fairly reasonable. Whatever you get, do a PM on it before you take off, this will tell you alot about a bike.(oil, air filter, sparkplug, brakes, etc)It will also give you things to look out for that could be an issue.

Cant go wrong with a rancher. I've "kid-ridden" mine alot and it still does its job well. weve got a 2004 rancher 350 and I've rolled it 3 times and flipped it head over heels once I've flopped it on its side a couple times also. It keeps on working, the only thing wrong that I've found is the shifting sensor has been replaced 2 times and from what I read on the internet is a problem with that years. the 350 is plenty of power for me I'm fairly light (170 lbs) and I can get it up to 65 on a flat dirt road. but if I bring my girlfriend along (who's super light also ) and our combined weight is about 280 it could use a little more power. I've got just over 8k miles on mine so far, which is ALOT for a quad and it works great.

Well before I bought my Suzuki VInson 500, I used a honda foreman 450. It was a 1999 model I beleive. I know this sounds bad but for 3-4 years, I never changed the plug or a filter, just the oil, and it kept running.

I dont think you can go bad with a honda.

BTW I would defintley want a standard shift.
