Beware of Richards Microfit Gunstocks

Just after the first of the year, I ordered a stock from them by phone, their web site says 8-9 weeks for delivery. I paid for the order in full. For the past 7 weeks I have tried to email and call them and they will not respond. I finally sent them a certified letter and I did get the return receipt back. At least I know they still exist. I am wondering where I go from here? Any ideas?

Contest it on your credit card, then get a real stock from someplace else.

I paid it for with a cashiers check /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif and ,you bet, I will go someplace else /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif.

I prefer Boyds for two reasons. One they have had decent customer service and the other is they do a better job of inletting and sanding. Still have to plan on waiting a few weeks.

Richards advertise that a stock for a standard action (this is) will take 6-8 weeks. Close to 4 months for my order and no word. I can understand a delay, but absolutely no communication from them is what really ticks me off. I will go to Boyds from now on. Richards is a bad joke, stay away from them.

Sorry...but this doesn't constitute mail fraud according to USPS provisions.

That might work...but I doubt it.

I don't think I would go to the time & trouble for the amount of money invested. Passing along info (like he is doing here) is much more effective than trying to recoup $150 or whatever it is.

I have the same problem as you. I ordered from RM just after the first of the year and have heard nothing from them. I have called at least ten times and have sent a number of emails with no response. I would have ordered from Boyd's and tried to, but they didn't offer a LH Mod 70 stock in Brown Laminate. I ordered mind from RM with a credit card. If i ever do receive this stock it will be my first and last from this company. They have convinced me they do not want me for a customer. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

You and I are paddling in the same canoe! I finally got an email through to them today and they responded within a couple of hours. Why? Because I read the riot act to them and gave them a link to this thread /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Told them by the time I got done with them on the internet....... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif. Guess what? My stock is to be shipped Monday. We shall see. They did provide a UPS tracking number and if I don't see it Monday......they need to be Zumboed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

The internet is a powerful tool to finally make companys be responsable to their customers...or former customers.

I ordered from RM last year, same problem as you guys,No answer to my calls or Emails finally got my stock from them 17 weeks later (was promised 8-9 weeks when I ordered it).Stock was the wrong color and I think they inletted it and cut it out with a hatchett. When I called them about it they said that was their standard unfinished stock and that it was the wrong color because they had another customer cancell their order so they sent it to me to get my order filled faster.

You got to kidding. Darn good thing car dealers don't try that stunt! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif Order a green truck and they send you a blue one instead. Sheesh. Let's see, RM is in Kalifornia, I wonder if they employ illegals? They obviously don't give a rip about their customer base. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Just a note , I have ordered 2 stocks from Boyds and they shipped in 6 to 8 weeks . I have allways been able to get them on the phone . Just my thoughts .

I am currently working on a Richards stock. Over the years I've ordered dozens of stocks from Richards after Fajen stopped offering custom stocks. Other than some long waits, I have been satisfied with their stocks. The exterior is usaully rough and requires a lot of shaping and sanding. But on the other hand it leave me plenty of wood to shape the stock the way I want. The receiver and barrel area does need quite a bit inletting, but it's no big deal if you have the know how and equipment.

I have found that if you specify a particular grade say a semi-fancy, you usually get closer to an A-fancy, or if you order an A-fancy you get closer to a AA-fancy. I have never ordered a sub-grade piece of wood from what I had orginally ordered. Good pieces of wood for the money though.

I will be placing and order soon for 2 or 3 more stocks from Richards. I hope it doesn't take 8 months to get them though. That's way too long.
