Beyond Belief!

Has anyone seen the video titled "Beyond Belief" with John Burns long range shooting that is being advertized on the Men's Cannel?

I was just watching a hunting show this evening on the Men's channel that had John Burns on it. They were coyote hunting in New Mexico in the snow and killed several coyotes.
One stand they killed 3 our 5 called, and killed 3 out of 6 on the other. The third coyote was killed at 760 yards. They used a range finder and then dialed in the scope to make the shot. It was from the sitting position using shooting skicks.

If they ever said what caliber they were using, I didn't catch it. Did anyone see it, or know what caliber rifle they were using?

That kind of shooting IS almost "Beyond Belief".

I have been talking about that show on this topic on this forum. I've been watching this show for awhile and it awesome. I haven't ordered the DVD's, but I plan on it. I've got a few other DVD I've bought and still need to watch them.

Yep. That was the one. Best of the West. First time I have seen it.

But, I still have not heard what calibers they are supposed to be using.

It is one thing to hit one that far, and another to drop him that far.

I purchased the DVD awhile back, and he's using a BDC system that's been calibrated for the load he's using on big game-- i heard somewhere that he's shooting a 7 STW, but i caouldn't confirm it. The BDC systems are common enuf, though somewhat less flexible as simple MOA calc's with an accurate turret. They're available here--

or here for a Leupold--

A # years ago there was an article in PS Publications called The DITY Knob, where u could custom make your own BDC knobs fairly easily.

The caliber for the big game hunting was actually a .284WRP (similiar to the 7mmSTW) according to the website you listed.

I'm not sure exactly what a 22-243AI is(how is it different from a .243AI?), but it must be pretty good.

.243 "Ackley-Improved".......

I wonder how many of those shots result in un-recovered or wounded animals? Some of the stuff people come up with now is "beyond belief" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Definately some good shooting, and challenging shooting, but where's the hunting challenge? Nothing like a spot and stalk to get the heart thumpin' and put your hunting skills to the test.

davr,

I see your point, but I like all aspects of hunting. Be it with a bow, shotgun, pistol, rifle, and my long awaited SKS predator hunting assault rifle. Heck sometime a pick up my old pellet gun and shoot a few sparrows.

The company that John Burns used to work for that built those rifles, Wind River Precision, is building rifles complete with scopes and dial knobs. They are located here in Thermopolis, Wyoming. Burns is no longer associated with them.

I just called to order the video and while talking to the order taker and asking questions John Burns was walking by. The guy handed John the phone and I got to talk to him. He's quite an interesting guy.

He told me that the second video was almost done and in the editing phase and he expected to release it in early June. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Wyote is letting me post under his profile so understand this is not Wyote but John Burns.

I am in a hurry but I would like to thank everyone for all the nice comments about our show and the DVD "Beyond Belief"

I do have to respond to Ruda1 erroneous statements.

I did not “work” for Wind River Precision but was a partner. The other 2 partners wrongfully disassociated themselves from the partnership and there is pending litigation. I would recommend anyone interested in doing business with them consider this.

I personally built all the shooting systems I use and my former partners had no ability to create a proper shooting system.

Again this is not Wyote but he is letting me use his profile this one time to correct these statments

John,

Thanks for the clarification. I enjoyed talking to you today and I bet I enjoy your video. You seem like a straight up guy.

Pretty impressive stuff i think, and i'll be purchasing the next 1-- John, be sure and post it on longrangehunting please when it's available.

There's also Butch Keen's Point Blank From Long-Range videos that are pretty good too if u're interested.

Did you see what wyote posted? "John uses a 22-243 for coyotes".

How do you suppose someone from Wyoming who is extremely knowledgeable in precision rifle building and long range shooting could do such a thing like using a 22 caliber rifle for coyotes?

Maybe you could come up with a video titled something like "Use Enough Gun for Coyotes" to set the record straight.

I can see the DVD cover now: You in the turret of your M1-A1 Abrams, goggles in place, roaring after a coyote across the vast expanses of NW Florida. You could probably make a fortune - and be famous, too. - BCB /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif
