I received this email from a freind and it said that the hog in these pictures was killed by a farmer with a pistol on a farm near Great Bend Kansas. Has anyone seen this picture before? I am just curious if this is real or if this is a hoax. I have alot of friends around Great Bend and they can't varify if this is real or not. Surely a Hog this big would have made the newspaper. If it is a real hog, WOW!!!

I wish I could tell you.
That sure looks like a monster!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
{maybe he ought to shred it up & have it delivered via "air mail" to Iran's Prez, & the rest of those dimwits in the Middle East!!} /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif

I actually wish KDWP would open a hog season instead of having their own workers do "population control" like they did recently. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
From what I hear, we are getting a big enough population of wild hogs in Kansas to make it worthwhile /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif...the least they could do is do a lottery type of thing for residents. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif
I'd sure like to try a hog hunt without having to go out of state to do so, one of these years. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

there have been lots of stories about where that hog came from, but non of them were KS in the beginning! I think originally it was said to have come from georgia.

Doghunter,
I live in Great Bend, and believe me, we would have heard about it around here! I think I saw something on snopes.com about this, and have seen this floating around the net for a while!

Regards,
Tim

Are they a recognized game animal in KS? I can confirm a 400# hog kill in northern GW CO about 5 years ago. Was taken on land adjacent to my folks. This one looks like he'd go well over 500#. KS F&G confirmed is was a Russian boar not simply feral swine.

In the email I got it said this hog weighed over 1100 pounds. But it sounds like it is a hoax. We do have hogs in KS but I doubt very seriously that many would go much over 300 pounds. I found it hard to believe that this hog would have come from the Great Bend area since I have not heard of hogs in that area. I have heard of hogs being further south in KS. They are not a game animal right now, and you can't pay to hunt them, although you can buy a liscence but it is not thorough F&G, I think it was from the FDA but am not sure, and it is a cheap liscence too from what I heard.

i do know this hog dosent weigh know where near a 1000 lbs.i have shot 3 pigs over 400 and 1 boar just over 500 that where weighed on certified scales.my dozers bucket is way bigger then the bucket on this tractor and none of the pigs above would fit in it.they had to be chained and lift with the bucket.i have seen 2 600 lb pigs that where shot in albany tx buy friends at there deer lease and a 600 lb pig will not fit in a 8 ft pick up bed with the tail gate down.the heads on both of the pigs hung over the tail gate.both of these had to be loaded with a big tractor.

I've had those same pictures e-mailed to me twice over the past year. One said it was shot in Florida and the other said Oklahoma.

That was called hogzilla and the pictures have been around for a while.I think originally shot it florida.take care, daveyboy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

A 2,600 lb hog in Albany, TX? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Damn, first liar don't have a chance... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Well, it it's true, he could have shot him closer to the oven or the BBQ grill! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The funny part was, the farmer shot him with a .17 HMR at 487 yds and hit him right in his private parts and the hog took off running and ran head-on into that dozer bucket and kilt his-self. Oh man, I had too much coffee this morning.
Sorry about this /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

that hog is easy over 1000lbs. look at the guy if you curled him up he might be as round as the pig but the pig is at least 6 times as long as he is wide. We use to raise pigs on the farm and we had one sow that we finally killed because she would not become pregnant. And she topped the scales at over 600 lbs. And she was way smaller then the pig in the picture.

The pigs head is well over the guys weight itself.

Of course if the guy in only 80 lbs maybe the hog is only 600. But he looks at least 150lbs to me.

first of all that pig has a little domestic in him, We raise show pigs for fairs and such, have several sows around here that tip the scales around 800-825, he's got em beat by atleast 100lb, just my .02$
