For those of you who dont know Im a huge fan of the Wild West. Dont know how many people have watched the Young Guns movies but in case you havent here is the jist of it... Its about Billy The Kid and his gang trying to avenger there boss's death in the Lincoln County War, at the end of YG2 he was supposedly killed by sheriff Pat Garret ( long time friend) Now I know its a movie but if you do some research what supposedly actually happned with Billy the Kid the movie follows very well. Heres my Question. Do you think Pat Garret killed Billy the Kid? I personally do not, for a few reasons, but Ill let you guys get your opinions out first. This is off the wall I know but Dad and I were just talking about it and it bugs me to death.

Years ago(childhood) I was a wild west nut also- been so long I have forgotten more than I remember about it, we even went to SD, WY, and CO for vacation when I was a kid so I could see some of the places I was reading about then. I now live near Northfield MN http://www.civilwarstlouis.com/History/jamesnorthfield.htm
James-Younger Gang: Northfield, MN
they have a big party every year for this. As for William H Bonney well------ Brushy Bill ????

Im named after a few of those guys,Cole James, how could you NOT be trouble whe your named after guys like that?i think they faked his death, ive seen some investigations into it and there are lots of holes and eye witnesss that say the body wasnt billy.

I've been interested in this story since I was a kid.
I've read all the books I could find that had ANY mention of Billy.
Also watched (that I know of) all the movies that ever had him as a charachter. {& yep, I own both YG movies}
Of course, Hollywood has always changed parts of the story to fit whatever they wanted at the time, so I don't use movies as much of a true reference.
However...
I do believe that it's very possible that Brushy Bill Roberts was Billy the Kid. Too many things that he told to the lawyer (who wrote the book), were things that only Billy or someone who rode with him constantly would have known. Plus the odd wrist/hands.
Maxwell's daughter had a thing for Billy.
It's possible that Billy knew his time was short if he didn't stop.
Garrett saw a way to not only make "easy money", but a reputation, although in the end that reputation didn't help him in life.
So yes, Billy's death could have been faked, IMO.

..... I suppose it's possible, but lets remember this one thing, someone really did die the night Billy was gunned down, it wasn't just an act of simple trickery. You'd think someones momma would have missed a young man about Billy's age that suddenly came up missing.

I think Billy died that night, the same as Jessy James, and Butch Cassidy and Sundance. For some reason we like to think our heroes are bigger than death. The cold hard fact is they are/were all dead ...... legends and conspiracies are fun to play with though.

...... If Brushy Bill told stories only someone there could have told, how do we know the stories actually happened? The cable networks did a story about Billy and Brushy Bill, they did say that scares and the stories sounded plausasble, I believe they also did genetic testing on his known blood relatives and found that he was not realted to Billy.

I dont think Pat shot him. I think the Kid rode off. Way to many holes, where and how.

Besides all that you cant kill the Kid, hero/gunslinger gets away.

Did you see the test on shooting dimes out of a 12 guage. They dont fly very good.
