There is a bird watcher's bird call that is about 1 in. long, wood ( I believe basswood) with a a silver plug. You put baseball resin in the the base. Then you make your own sounds by twisting and turning, and pulling the silver plug. Makes all kinds of interesting sounds. Not loud like an e-caller but should work close up. I have had mine for 30 plus yrs. Tried it fox hunting a few times ---no luck yet but it should work like a mouse squeaker up close. Don't know where to get on off hand . Would try some Audibon or Izzac Walton site.
