First off, happy 13th birthday to my son who wanted a coyote kill on his birthday and after a debacle cluster screw up on our first stand and disappointment going 0 for 2. (Long story but we’ve all been there.) he got too excited hurried.. I could have done things different too… anyway…Our second stand is just a few hundred yards across a pasture field to the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. As we were walking in the coyotes were carrying on all on their own and sounded like they were in the pasture field. My son looked at me and whispered “I’m going to get my revenge from the last spot.” I said I hope so buddy. We got to the edge of the pasture field and it became apparent they were not on our side of the river. Knowing the part of the river they would like to cross because it remains so shallow across the whole thing I had him set up facing that direction. After some back and forth forth howling and whimpering, I hit went silent for a few minutes. It let out a lone short howl much closer to the part of the river we anticipated they would want cross at. We did an excited pair howl sound. Shortly after it howled again. I went quiet for a couple minutes and went to my first prey distress and it came busting in shortly after. Ran almost to the call. Wish I could figure out how to send yall the video I may as a couple still shots of it. I tried to follow a tutorial but I’m so bad at technology the only thing I can do is work a thermal scope. It was soaking wet from busting across that river. So he got his birthday coyote last night (Sunday) on his birthday. Oh and his birthday weekend started Saturday with an opening day muzzleloader 8 Point! First time hunting away from me. Now with cell phones he called me right after he shot so pumped and excited he could barely speak said he was shaking too badly to text! I can’t do video so I attached a few screen shots of it. It does a heck of a vertical leap spewing blood like a water fountain. In the video my son says “man it is spewing blood like crazy.” Hahah the screen shots unfortunately don’t do it justice but it was great birthday.
