BL-C2 and 40gr bullets in a .222?

anybody have any data for 40 gr bullets in a .222 remington with BL-C2? even hodgdon's website does not list any data for BL-C2 below a 45 gr bullet. my dad wants me to load up some shells for his savage .222, and have some 40 gr sierra blitzkings that i couldn't use in my .22 hornet (too long for the magazine), and a bunch of BL-C2 that i've been loading in my .204. . . soooooo . . . long story short /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif, am looking for some suggestions on starting/max loads. anybody have any that they'd share? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

When you can't find data for a specific bullet/powder combination you can try data for a slightly heaver bullet. Just be carefully working up the load.
I did find one load using that combination but I'm not sure if it is a max load or not. I think it is so how much to lower it to find a starting load I don't know. That is also why I won't repeat it, just don't want someone to get hurt.

I just ran it through QuickLoad. BL-C2 is pretty slow for the 40 grainers in this chambering. Even with a casefull of this powder, you don't reach minimum recommended chamber pressure, which (in spite of how it may sound) isn't a good thing.

Even with a casefull, velocity would be only about 3200 fps, which is pretty slow for a 40 grainer in this chambering.

Three top picks in powders for this bullet weight/chambering are Ramshot XTerminator, Hodgdon H335, and Alliant RL7.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. . . i was hoping that the BL-C2 would work (because i have couple pounds of it). the only reason i want to load the 40 gr bullets is because i have them and can't use them in anything that i have /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif. guess Dad will have to buy some different powder, or different bullets /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

I shoot 40 grain VMaxes in my .223 Rems, and get 3705 fps and .4" accuracy with 27 grains of XTerminator. It's my standard pdog load. The stuff meters like a dream.

Here... from the Sierra manual.

BL-C(2)
23.5 = 2900
24.1 = 3000
24.7 = 3100
25.4 = 3200
26.1 = 3300
26.8 = 3400

There is nothing wrong with the combination of Bl-C2 and 40 grain bullets.

As Catshooter said, the C2 will work well the 40's. Many years ago, I shot P. dogs with it and C1 when it was available. Using a long 10" drop tube, I had such a heavy powder charge, that I tapped the drop tube to get the powder to settle into the case. If I remember right, I was able to get around 3600 with a 7 1/2 primer out of 40x's.

The 40's peter out around 250yds at that speed and by 300, they just kinda hit the dogs and they fall over in slow motion kinda wobbly on their feet. Now the Blitz kings will no doubt be more explosive than the Sierra Lead tips that I was shooting.

Note: the C2 with 55g bullets is simply awesome in a 222.

Thanks guys!! my Dad will be happy if i can load up some of those 40 grainers. . . he's looking for something to splatter woodchucks. . . and if the ranges are over 250 yds, he has a .270 that will be used. . . lol. might have to try some 50 or 55 grainers tho. . .
