Black Hills Ammo?

Does anyone no about Black Hills ammunition for a .223. I am thinking about shooting there 52-grain Hollow points and was wondering if that was a good idea? Thanx.

Dennis,
I have never shot the BH 52 Gr. HP's but I have shot quite a bit of the 55 Gr. soft points and they shot really well out of my AR.

I pretty much use the 52 gr match HP exclusively because of the results I've gotten from them. I would recommend it, but I'm not so sure about pelt damage because I'm not really concerned about that.

I ran out of my reloads one winter, while I sent for more Sierras I bought a box of 50 BHA the best group I could get was 1.5-2" at 100yds, I ended up shooting 3or 4 times to hit the fox. I think maybe they were better for semi-autos ??? If I can't get less than a half inch group at 100yds I don't want it. I have been amaised at how many people say they use it. KY

My kids and I have six .223 rifles that like Black Hills 52 grain HP's. One inch or better groups. Simplifies ammo, just grab a blue box and any .223 in the house. Jacket is a little thin for coyotes at bad angles, vaporizes prairie dog's heads.

.20,
Sorry you have a rifle that won't shoot the stuff. My son, when he gets through shooting at a target, loads up his 700 vs with Black Hills 52 grain HPs and shoots the thumb tacks out of the four corners. Some times it takes him 5 or 6 shots to get all four of them.

I shot my best 5 rd group (inside of a dime@ 100yrds) using the BH 52 gr match using my Winchester Stealth. I just had my AR15 freefloated and I am going to take it out this afternoon to test the results with this ammo. I would imagine that I"m giong to get good results with my AR15, now that it's been floated. I bought alot of this ammo on sale and it works very well. I've bought some 168 match for my .308 becauase I figured out that for what I'm paying for BH it wouldn't be worth my time to reload, even though I have all the equipment to start. I figured that I'd rather shoot than reload, at least for now because I don't have the time to reload. I would suggest trying other .223 ammo until you find one that your rifle likes. I know that the Ultramax works well on my Stealth and AR as well. I also use Hornady Vmax aka TAP.

I don't use them but I have fired a box of them through my AR 15 and I got .5 groups consistantly I would recomend you at least give them a try.The only reason I dont use them is cause I reload.I get better results with reloads, and its cheaper.I dont think you can beat blackhills when it comes to factory ammo.My 2 cts.Good luck and good hunting.

I would agree that it is definitely worth trying a box. Its inexpensive ammo. and if it doesn't perform in your rifle your not out much, but there is a very good chance that it will shoot good for you. My Tikka whitetail shoots the 52 gr. MHP into an inch or less easily.
I have also had good accuracy with the Ultramax 50 gr. TNTs (less than an inch). The Ultramax 55 gr. SP opens the groups to 1 1/2 inches, which still isn't too bad considering the price.
Buy a box of several brands and bullets and give them a try. Once you figure out which one you like then buy a bunch. This way you can also take advantage of a sale when one comes up because you already know what your rifle likes to shoot.

I tried the 55gr fmj when I was fox hunting.this was in my old 788 .223 I shot .5" groups at 100yd with my reloads. If it shoots 1.5" at 100 it will equal 4.5 inch groups at 300yds. One year I shot 78 fox, about 1/3 of them were at 280 yards to 325yds. My Tac. .20 shots a 1" group at 300yds.
I have no use for a load or rifle that can only group 4-5" at three hundred yards. As long as the load work good for you that is what counts, right? KY

I shot .5 inch groups in my 223 with the 52 grain match HP, That is the only bullett i use in that gun, very accurate.
