black talon??

Most of it is just Politically Correct Hype...When the "Black Talon" ammo first came out, there was an almost immediate backlash in the media about the name and after some experiments that indicated it was extremely effective (and damaging internally) with support by some of the 'anti-gun' doctors, it was withdrawn from manufacture...

Winchester immediately replaced it on the market with some SXT (or STX) ammo that basically performed the same, but without the coloration and name...

I still have some for my .44mag, 10mm, and 9mm, as well as a couple boxes of the old "IQ" ammo that was pulled from market the same way after it was determined that it was capable of penetrating some bullet resistant body armor...They are also up there in price....

When Black Talon first ccome out, some group, can't remember the name, labeled it armor penetrating.Probably one of first "cop killer" rounds released from the factory. It was like OT said political hype and pulled from production. It was released back out as SXT if memory serves me right and nobody paid it any attention.

I have like 8 boxes. Of 357 and 3 of 9mm and 1 of 45..... that I got at an estate sale a few years back... just been siting on them

Pretty much hype. From a collectible standpoint you have something thats only manufctured for a short time so supply isnt there but thats it.

The cod crowd though, probably believes the hype.

Theres a reason why the price is high, they were and still are the best bullet to kill somebody with. They were always in high demand, just cant get them anymore, TOO DEADLY.

Quote:TOO DEADLY.....Dead is dead...They just require a little less accurate shot to create a bunch of internal damage...

...At least, so say the doctors that have had to deal with the results...

Winchester discontinued them and came out with the SXT's shortly after. They were pretty much the same, just without the black coating. Some say SXT stood for "Same Exact Thing" and was a joke on the morons that protested them.

The newest version of the Talons are the PDX1 rounds. Shot a 357SIG into some gallon jugs of water to recover the bullet. Definitely looks like a good round to shred someones insides.

Black Talon was discontinued and reintroduced without the black coating as the SXT. Then that was improved with the newest Ranger T versions, both the non-bonded and the later bonded core Ranger T. Now there is a PDX-series in the line up. The Black Talon isn't anything special with the offerings of today from any of the major ammo makers.

I cant figure out if youre being serious or not.

Over a couple decades ago my first duty ammo was Winchester 158 grain Silvertips for my Smith and Wesson 686 .357. Most of us at the time figured they were about the best to make a huge hole in someone and for penetration when needed. I never knew anyone to use the Black Talon on duty, but I'm sure people did, somewhere. For years now we have used Speer 165 Grain Gold Dot ammunition in our .40 caliber Glocks. I guess there are quite a few rounds that would make a mess of whatever they hit.
