Blitzking vs vmax

Sierra's are great bullets. But they're harder to find usually and definitely more money. Vmax do what I need to do and I've piled up a bunch as blems for as little as 6 to 8 cents each.

I have seen Blitzkings shot from a 22-250 come apart in flight. I suspect my buddy's barrel may have been rough or he just exceeded the bullet's maximum velocity. There was a faint grey streak showing the bullet path and he wasn't hitting what he was aiming at. I do not know about how the V-maxs behave when driven to very high velocity as I don't own a 220 or 22-250.

Basically, the Nosler Varmageddon and the Hornady V-max are pretty much the same bullet. I use the 40 & 50 grs for ground squirrels and the 60 & 62 grs for coyotes. All are very accurate in my 223 handloads.

I've shot both and all things being equal, I prefer the .224 - 53gr V-Max with a high BC over the Sierra mainly because of the savings in cost between the 2. Prairie dogs don't seem to notice the difference.

If your running a hotrod, short barrel life cartridge cost savings in bullets don't add up. Buy a premium bullet in bulk(1000) @ .25/ shot. Or buy a cheap bullet at .18/shot. You saved 70.00, the barrel blank 350.00+300+ gunsmith. Might as well shoot the premium bullet. Now if you buy a Savage 223, shoot prairie dogs with it, 5 trips 500 rounds each. And you brought 5000 Speer TNT at .09 each you saved 400.00, enough to order a new premium prefit for the last 2500 bullets that will probably shoot better on the next 5 trips. And you had bullets through the next pandemic.

The blitzkings will be used in my 6 DTI

I finally found some 70 grain blitzking as Dtech suggested

My barrel is a 1-10 twist and just doesn’t seem to like the 58 grain max

I'm running the 70BKs in a 6x6.8spc and have had great results with it, most hits are bang flops. Its actually pretty fur friendly but every once in awhile things get ugly! I'm not concerned with fur damage though and the Noslers are a little better for fur damage but IMO don't kill as good.
