Blowguns anyone?

I ended up with a dozen of these in my mamba kit.
I havent tried them yet but expect they would work much better for a quicker kill. They are 3 blade versions.

Here is the dlred tail dart on a hog....

Looks like the mamba is getting re vamped amd called a jungle max blowgun...eventually with a new mouth piece.

Just took out a squirrel this afternoon with a homemade dart. Made it from a bike spoke and an exactly knife blade for a tip. Cut the broad head to a wide. 55” “V” and JB welded it to the shaft. Made a huge hole. I pinned it to the ground and it died instantly. I’ll be making more of these.

Penetration at test I did earlier in the day with the dart through 4 inches of Styrofoam at 5 yards. The dart weighs 9 g.

Just took another squirrel today with a poor shot placement. It was facing me and I aimed between the eyes. The dart hit high and far back. It never exited coming to a stop on the inside of the rear leg. I used the exact same dart as above. It made a 10 yard run and fell over dead. I must’ve caught a main artery on the rear leg as fast as it expired. Literally died within seconds.

I have taken quite a few more critters with a blow since my last post.... and a lot of fish. I tried to dispatch a huge raccoon yesterday...even with a red tail dart. It was all balled up when I shot both times. I wanted to see how fast it would be dispatched and I found out that shot placement is key. After a few seconds of it sitting there like nothing happened I dispatched it with my air rifle. When I skinned the critter i found out both darts slid along the ribcage of the raccoon and somehow deflected.

This squirrel was about ten yard shot quartering away. The dart went completely through it popping off the cone. It laid down right at the shot right where you see it.

So , shot placement is definitely key , just like archery or any other hunting for that matter.

I have done the shells on and off for decades. I never did a skull before until a few weeks ago. I used a plastic white coat hangers to connect the skulls to the shells. A lot of super glue and baking powder to secure. Same with attaching the jaw. Rustoeim clear gloss with several coats over everything.

Just made myself a nice homemade blowgun rack out of a cedar tree that fell down on my land for a tornado about a decade or so ago.

I cut the wood up to burn in my fireplace, but saved a few pieces over the years. Glad I didn’t toss this one out. I made a slingshot a couple months ago out of the same chunk, and it turned out gorgeous too.

Well I've been too busy during our archery season to play with my blowguns lately. It was pouring rain so I didn't get out in the stand this morning.

Walked out in the backyard right when the sun was coming up and this Possum-zilla was just climbing out of my apple tree.

Ran back in and grabbed one of my 6' blow guns and a 3 blade Red Tail dart.

The front halfof the possum collaped immediately. Then it tipped over after a second or two without ever taking a step.

Didn't get complete pass through and the tip was bent.

I was impressed how fast it was dispatched with a three bladed Dart. I had the same 3 bladed red tail dart deflect off a 20 pound raccoon's ribs a few weeks back. The dart basically went between the skin and the ribs. The shot placment looked as if was a perfect lung/heart hit but the dart never penetrated through the ribs.

So I was having mixed reviews on this dart but wanted to try it one more time on a critter.

As long as you can penetrate past ribs that dart kills quick.
