I picked up one of these a couple of months back because for one, im a model 700 nut (borderdline addiction here), and two because i thought it was cool. Im told that Remington, for two or three years in the sixties, bought stainless barrels from hart, put them on some of their faster calibers, then blued over the stainless. My question is since this gun is a 7mm remington mag, should i keep it a safe queen as a colectible, scope and hunt it, or just sell it to someone and make fifty bucks? would like to have a nightforce scope, but at the same time, i like my 700s. Any advice?

I thought all the early 7 mags were stainless bbl. I still see them around once in a while, they don't really command collector value around here.

Dunno what the market says in your neck of the woods.

Its a rifle, it wont lose any value if you shoot it. On the other hand, its a tool used to put bulets down range, thats it. If you can sell yours then buy a new one that shoots equaly well for less money, that makes you ahead.
If you truelly are a nut(insert collector), then it holds value to you beyond its intent and therfore, go with your gut.

The early Rem 7mm Mags (I got the first one in this area) had stainless bbls. They were copper plated and the copper plate was then blackened by a chemical process.

Mine (an ADL) shot very well (slightly sub-MOA with handloads)and is now owned by one of the guys I worked with for several years.

Vintage 700s seem to be slowly going up in price (I didn't say value), on the for sale sites. But so is most every thing else.......
