I'm interested in trying to callin bobcats this winter in Oklahoma, probably on public ground. Where should I start ? has anyone tried this ? what part of Oklahoma has the most cats? NE part of state is closest for me . Help.

Well, I don't mean this in a bad way, but have you tried researching the animal that you shall be hunting? That would be where I started. Bobcats can be found statewide, but the most I have seen would be in the SE part of the state.

Most of us okies just call and what shows up gets shot at. Now, if you are properly licensed, and properly equipped, I ask you, how where YOU planning on calling? I ask this because there is a difference usually in calling coyotes to bobcats. GENERALLY, cats are more patient then coyotes. That is why coyotes frequently show up on the stand first.

Hope that I haven't offended you, but I have found it is better to make someone learn rather then just tell. I promise you will absorb what you learn and not just show up and wonder why you are not doing so well.

Where are you located? There are bobcats in every part of the state, and lots on public lands. If you have a specific area you want to know about send me a pm.

Haven't got my first cat yet, but it is no fault of theirs. Yellowhammer showed me how it was done in his neck of the woods. I tried the same in my area, and couldn't find the first cat I hit. The second I called in, I just flat out missed! The way I see it, find thick cover, along a creek doesn't hurt, and if it looks too thick, hunt it anyway. I don't expect that to help you any, but so far that's what I've learned. Just keep reading here and you'll learn a lot from a great bunch of guys and a gal or two. Welcome aboard!

i have a fx3 foxpro that i call with.use mouth calls also.the bobcat in heat is awesome on the fx3.i have been calling around here for years and never seen a bobcat while calling.i got the fx3 in Jan 15.in 2 weeks called in 9 and got 5.when calling in bobcats you have to stay on stand for a long time.one thing about the bobcat in heat they would answer the call back.if they squal back they are coming in.this could take 2 min or 2 hours.some of them would equal one time and not do it again and others would squal all the way in.another thing to keep in mind.dont shine your light directly on them until you are ready to shoot them.this was my mistake when i first started calling them in.they will stop and stay right where you shined direct light on them.once you get them in and shine the light on them you will have no problem getting a shot.hope this helps.when i use the bobcat in heat i turn it on let it squal a couple of times and turn it off to see if anything answers back.then turn it on and let it play until something comes in or i give up.

I would just go out and call. The best way i have found to call bobcats in Oklahoma is just make lots of stands but you have to be patient. The more you are out calling the better your odds are.

If you live in Oklahoma dont go call at night with a spotlight unless you want a huge fine.
