Bobcat in Ohio

Just saw a paper that showed a guy with a bobcat that was in his snare, that he had just put out. Has anyone seen one in Ohio before? I have been hunting for about 15 years, my dad 50 and we have never seen one here before.

That’s news to me but back in 1955 the local paper said a game warden killed a coyote on the North side of Akron and we thought that he must have shot some ones German Shepard, so I guess anything is possible. When I was a kid there wasn’t a deer season in Ohio because there wasn’t any deer, and a Canada goose was unheard of and I am only 65 now.

Eric,
When i was a kid there were a few around my granfathers farm where i was raised, but in the years that i have been hunting ohio i have only seen one..i had i guy call me last year that had found on that had been hit on the road and asked if i wanted it to skin out...it was in pretty rough shape so i passed. Also i have alot of friends in ohio that do alot of traping and they have never cought one.One guy is a control trapper for ohio. That is a good thing..Maybe they are on the come back, that would be nice.I haft to go to ky to cat hunt...Thanks for the info...

i worked at bob evans farm in rio grande while going to school at the university of rio grande,we used to give horse back rides during the summer and on weekends. one afternoon while giving the horse back ride the horses got spooky on us and started acting funny, we looked up in the pasture field and caught a glimpse of a bobcat crossing the field above us, we called the local game warden to come try to get rid of it so that we could continue the rides without fear of accidents but as usual he was not willing to get out of the pickup and walk up the hill. that was about 6 years ago and that is the only sighting i have ever heard of.they say you are to notify the wildlife agency when or if you see one and the location.

One of the control trappers that i know lives up there around seneca lake.Does alot of control trapping up there...If one of you all hunt up in that aera let me know..i will get him to hook you up on some good yote hunting spots..He has been after me to come up and hunt,i just have not been able to go..

I live in SE OH, 1 mile from WV and yes there are bobcats. I usually see a couple a year, but I'm in the woods alot. They are pretty scarce but we see them and even a black bear once in awhile.

Heard rumor of one possibly snared in Knox Co.-Danville area. Still checking on validity.......? I have seen tracks years back in Monroe Co. while hunting with a friend.
