Bobcat Photo

The one on the right looks like a male judging by its size but I don't know. I'll take a guess and say 26 pounds. They always look bigger than they really are.

I realize guessing weight can be difficult when these cats have winter coats on. Which they did in this picture. Curious though, If they were males wouldn't you be able to see there "boys" on the back end???

in that picture? no.

Depends on how cold it was that day.

Seeing the "boys" is the best way to tell, definitively. From just a cursory glance at the photo, the length of their legs, their girth, shoulders, head can all indicate a male vs. female. Usually, males are bigger than females. That can be dependent on their age, food availability, etc. Fur can camouflage their true identity and often makes them look bigger than they really are. I have seen some extravagant claims of weight based on the fur. Scales tell the tale.

I've seen a lot of bobcats on the hoof. Shot a few I thought for sure had to be Tom cats before I shot them but ended up being females. About the only sure fire way to tell is shoot 'em,flip them over and check for fur balls.

18 - 22 lbs.

I don't think either one of them gives the 25 lb mark even a sniff.

Case in point. I shot this cat after calling for just 2 minutes. He came running in like a coyote.

Looks like a monster. Weight? 22lbs 3oz. He was big, just didn't weigh much.
I am holding him out a bit too. We lost the big cat side-pot that day by 9oz... [beeep].

I've seen and taken many cats over the years in South Texas and none went over 22-23 lbs. These are not South Texas cats and appear much larger than any I've ever seen. Hopefully I'll be successful in this new area and will be able to put one on a scale. Thanks
