Bolt action 6mm Grendel / 6mm Arc type cartridge?

Select few have been playing with 6mm AR 6mm Grendel 6mm turbos for quite a few years now. Fast forward 2021 The factory legitimized 6MM ARC is getting a little traction with a standardized 7 1/2 twist. Load data is out there for gas operated & bolt action firearms 52,00psi & 61.000 psi respectively. Perhaps to my surprise the ARC seems to give up little to the Fat-rat or AR turbo IMHO.

So I'm looking at re-barreling a CZ527 7.62 x 39 to 6mm ARC & just asking myself is there a good reason to consider the earlier wildcat options over the soon to be fully supported 6mm ARC.


Telling myself I am doing this largely as a youth gun for my now 11 year old son. Truth be told I am really scratching a 15 year old itch for a fast twist PPC type rifle suitable for coyotes & deer with low recoil.

In the end Ill be making the call or perhaps I already have; Still Id love to hear opinions of the hord. please weigh in.

Other than you get 100+ FPS ut of the 243LBC and get to use Lapua brass you won't gain much.

I shot an LBC Savage in F-class at 500 and do very well and I built a switch barrel Ruger in 243 LBC last summer that is a hoot.

Yea, lot to be said for Lapua brass. With component shortage this looks to be a great excuse to make my own brass from 220 Russian. That is the plan any way.
 
I’ve been shooting 243LBC in AR’s for a few years, and very glad to have the option of factory ammo in 6 ARC now, despite the small loss in speed, so I’m replacing my barrels as they burn out with 6 ARC. I am exceptionally tempted to build a bolt action specialty pistol in 6 ARC for my son, but expect I’ll be building a 6 ARC bolt rifle with a 28” barrel sooner than later for myself too. I shot on squad last year at an NRL match with two guys from Hornady shooting 6 ARC’s, one with 108 ELD’s and the other 110 A-Tips, both pushing over 2900fps - one finishing in the top 10 at a National 2 day match. Very impressive from the little case, and feeding in CRF actions with dasher blocked AI mags was flawless.
