Bolt Action AR / NY Law

So it looks like my wonderfull Govenor will be pushing through NY's new gun laws. Its approved in the Senate and will most likely pass the Assembly today. This law will Ban future purchase of AR's.It will be illegal to purchase a semiauto with detachable mag and pistol grip. To allow me the benefits of the AR platform and accesories and to just piss off the libs I am wondering what it would take to build a Bolt Action AR. I have read some posts on this in the past. I'm not sure what exactly would be needed and if its available for purchase anywhere. I guess the Lower could be the same although a 2 position safety may be good. What else would be different, just the Bolt and barrel? I would still be limited to 7 round mag but the rest of the rifle should be completly legal. Seems to me parts to make one of these may be a good future prospect.

Right now the law stands at 2 evil features (detachable mag and pistol grip), the law that passed the senate states only one evil feature allowed. The easiest thing to do is add a bullet mag release like California has. This release has a tool you can buy that will allow you to drop the mag. When gun is in the house the tool stays attached, when I'm hunting the tool stays at home and I can load the mag through the top of the lower by pulling out the take down pin and pivot the upper open on the pivot pin. A hassle thats worth it to me to not have to register my evil gun.

When I save up enough pennies and sell the house I will move. I have no other choice. This will not be the end of NY gun laws, it wont end till they have all of them in the incinerator or limited to one round.

Exactly, straight pull bolt action is as simple as blocking the gas port or a barrel with no port. Side charger would make it a lot nicer to use.

I'd bet money that if a semiauto ban is put in place, that the manufacturers would start making straight pull bolt actions of some sort. At least that's what I'd do.

Bolt action or not, you wont be able buy a gun with a detachable magazine and a pistol grip. If you already have one it will have to be registered and it will be non transferable. This includes guns with thumbhole stocks and detachable magazines, cant have one unless you register it and you wont be able to buy it new.

Jamie you think bullet button will work? Don't know how it works to tell you the truth. Was thinking about pinning my mag and loading it same way you where talking. They said on news the ones you can register are guns made before 1994. Need to move out of here!!

. The Commander in Chief is suppose to announce his "executive orders" by noon tomorrow. Looks like we might all have to move to Louisianan, where they blocked this Federal move last election. RW

The new law states no mags over 7 can be purchased but the detachable mag and pistolgrip only pertain to semiautos. I think if its as easy as it sounds a side pull bolt action would be pretty good.

I guess a Rem 7615 would still be legal with a 7 round mag?? The PA Machinegun can still rattle 'em off if you have a need for speed.

Yep, if the people of NY continue to elect the same type of officials then they deserve what they pass. Clearly the constituents 'want' these laws passed or else the politicians would fear not being elected and not pass laws like these. I'm sure Cuomo is certain he will be re-elected.

Because the millions of people in NYC elected Zero, that doesn't mean the rest of us didn't vote against him. We are constituents and we voted for Romney/Ryan.

I wouldnt answer to the peanut gallery. Its either they feel for us because we are stuck in a nazi state or they dont because they are ignorant. 11 so called conservative republicans voted yes on this bill including the majority leader. So its not a democrat republican thing, its a bunch of scum that have motives that we arent privy to. There has to be something that was promised to these republicans for them to turn on their own constituents.

On another note it looks like any semi automatic with a pistol grip or thumbhole stock has to be registered. So my bullet magazine release theory wont work. Any semi with any sort of muzzle device would fall under the same category.

I have a RRA 16" varmint, no muzzle device. If I convert my pistol grip to one like this, then I'm pretty sure it wouldnt need to be registered. http://monstermangrip.com/MMG_AR.php

What really stinks is that the brand new AR that I am building that is still in pieces will not be compliant and will need to be registered. Seekins lower/upper and handrail with a Lija M4 barrel and seekins muzzle brake. I can make it bolt action by just removing the gas tube and thread and plug the gas block. Then you will have to pull the charging handle every time you want to load another round. Which sucks but at least I wont have to register it. Registration means you can never transfer ownership, even if you die. Means my son wont get to have it.

The only thing we can do is to keep writing our dear leaders and sign every petition and class action suit. Which seem to be taking off like a wild fire. With some dear leaders supporting it.

IF YOUR GUN IS SEMIAUTO AND IT CONTAINS EVEN ONE EVIL FEATURE IT NEEDS TO BE REGISTERED.

Pistol Grip
Tele stock
thumbhole stock
any muzzle device
forward grip

I'm sure this isnt all of them that are evil
