Not really,I bought a Howa in 7.62x39. What a cool little rifle. Heavy 20" barrel in a Kryptec camo stock. Weighs about 6 pounds or so with a 3x9 scope. Good trigger and shoots the cheap Tula HP's in pretty small groups. Fun gun!!

I bought the Ruger American Ranch in 7.62x39 and really like it. Great adjustable trigger, 5.9 lbs, without scope, bored at .311 so it shoots cheap Wolf ammo great. What's not to like. A new fun gun, and short range hunter.

Look at the CZ 527 in 7,62X39 still 6 pounds, set trigger and threaded muzzle.
The 300 Blackout is a better round than the 6,72X39.
You can buy 110gr to 220gr sub-sonic ammo.

Yes Willy the Blackout may be a better round but you can't buy loaded ammo for $11 for 40 rounds that shoots 1 1/2 inch groups at 200yds, 3 bullets touching at 100. Never thought I would own another rifle that shot SKS ammo but this Howa is a hammer for sure. Light weight, good trigger, accurate and just plain fun to shoot.

ya you're never gonna beat 7.62x39 for cost effectiveness i'll give it that. its simply impossible to beat the cost of the most prolific rifle caliber on the planet. its pure economics of scale.

like willy said, in pretty much every other area the blackout wins - mostly because its based on components from two of the most popular calibers in north america. that being 223 and 308. using a proper .308 bullet gives the largest possible selection of projectiles anywhere, and properly chosen allows the blk to do a whole list of things a x39 can usually only dream about.

but hey, thats the cool thing about living where we do - we're still free enough that everyone can get a firearm to suit their needs, preferences and personal taste !

ya, you get what i was going for though, i could have worded it better

i guess saying 223/5.56 brass and .308 projectiles would have been more accurate

Your right about the 30 cal popularity. I was hoping for a 308 bore because I have a shelf full of 308 projectiles. But,it didn't work out that way. Still a fun little rifle to shoot and cheap.

as a side note, too bad its not a 308 bore..

theres more than a few fellas on the 300 blk forum who are running 310 bullets down their 308 tubes without doing any sizing to them. personally i use some 310s (hornady 3142 zmax) but i push them thru a lee 308 bullet sizing die and end up with a .3085 bullet when i'm done (after springback with a few weeks sitting on the bench)

What's not to like about the "39", here it's $9.94 for 40rds. I sold the AK'S and SKS'S but still have a ton of ammo, so i went to psa and pick up one of their 7.62x39 18" uppers for one of my ar15 lowers. This one is a AR47 #7781958 and is hard to find in stock, but is way more accurate than anything i have shot in that caliber with cheap ammo. (I won $5 with it by putting a single shot in the center of a 3/4" dot from 100yds with it from one of our range know it all's).
As far as the Howa and RAR go i'm still looking and waiting for the right deal on one.

ive got nothing against x39 - i own two of them of different commie flavors. they're fun guns to shoot and for the price you cant beat the plinking fun.

i'm more of a blk fan because as a reloader and a suppressor owner it tickles my fancy in two departments at once.

as ive said multiple times before - i'm just glad we live in a country thats free enough that we can get/equip a firearm in any almost any configuration and caliber to suit our individual needs, wants and desires.

that versatility allows everyone to enjoy what for me is one of a very short list of lifelong hobby's.
