Bore Snake

What are your thoughts on useing A bore Snake on A CZ .17 Rem?? Do you run them through the bore dry? Thanks Gity

I pull a dry snake through my Rem about every 3-5 shots but I don't depend on it to replace a good cleaning just to help keep the powder build up down for easier cleaning!

I run by the Bore Snake.

My gunsmith told me about the guns that have been sent back to get broke off bore snakes out of them and also the ones that the manufacturers could not get out.

I stick with rods.

How do we say, "New Barrel"?

I like the bore snakes for a quick cleaning. But it is not a replacement. And I wouldn't recommend running it dry. Most of the bore snakes have copper brushes built in and I dont think it is a good idea to run them dry. Just my .02 cents.

Been using a patch worm on mine 4 17's. No problem but I always check the Patch size before the pull through. Fact is I've been using the Patch Worm on all the guns for the yearly on the safe queens and the ones that get used often.

Ya gotta stay clear of double patches, too.......just ask me!!!

I had a patch stuck in my 17 HMR for over a year. I couldn't get a gunsmith to touch it.

I finally got it out about a week ago. I think all the solvent and oils finally dried up in the patch and it pushed out.

I will never use an Otis kit in a small bore rifle again. I now have a coated Dewey rod and bore guide for it.
