so, today i finally got a handgun sold and came up with extra cash to update my Savage .223 Axis (that shoots rings around my old Remmington 700 ADL in .223 Rem.) with a better scope.
So, i bought a Nikon Prostaff 3 - 9 X - 40MM with no frills for around $185 at our local Denver Bass Pro. And also found a box of ammo that was on rebate.
-The Good! : They paid me the rebate right there instead of having me do it myself, was very nice of them. Also, gave me their cost for scope bases for the Savage Axis as mine weren't the right size, $4 for a set! Price of an actual Nikon was pretty affordable.
- The bad! : I had them mount and bore-sight it at the store. the guy was very nice and helpful but the bore-sighting was over 14 inches off! Luckily i brought my own bore-sight laser with me and re-did it at the range.
Now I'm shooting at or under 1 inch groups at 100 yards, VERY good for me!
Im impressed with the adjustable eye relief feature of this scope and its clarity, my last scope was a 12 year old budget Simmons that occassionally losts its zero.
LESSON LEARNED?? ALWAYS bore-sight your own scopes!
