id like to get into bowhunting. my buddys have mathews and bowtech and said theyre both excellent bows. im looking to spend like %250-$300 or less on the bow though... any help? im gonna keep researching anywhere i can

also, do any of yall predator hunt with a bow? that seems like it would be a real challenge!

find a deal on a good, used bow. No need to spend $800 on a new bow setup if you're not sure you're gonna like it. Lots of experienced guys get new rigs every year or two so there should be some good used bows available. Go to a good bow shop or two and shoot several different ones if possible. Each bow has a definite "feel" to it. Get one that feels good and that you shoot well...and one that fits. A good pro shop should be able to find the right bow and fit for you.

Speed isn't everything it's cracked up to be. A slower, more forgiving bow might be just the ticket for a newbie. Practice often and keep your shots close for now. Work into the longer shots as your experience/confidence increases.

I agree with Bownut you will be able to find a good used bow for that price. You might also find some last years model's as well. The Bear Team Primos bows are discontinued they are good if you can find one still in stock.

ok thanks for the help guys. there is an excellent archery program here at texas a&m that id like to get into and ive heard you can shoot hunting bows in practice and stuff. where should i start looking for a bow though? bow hunting forums? i dont know of any places that sell bows except places like bass pro...

Don't get to hung up on names. But make sure that is a bow company that is still around. There are alot of fly-by night companies that are here today and gone the next. If you stay with the major companies and get one that fits you you should be happy. You need to go to a good proshop and try some different bows out. Like others have said speed is not everything. If you miss with a 300+fps bow or you miss with a 250fps bow it is still a miss. You just need more practice on judging yardage. Or get yourself a rangefinder.

DO NOT buy a used bow unless you know exactly what your getting. i would suggjest ONLY buying one through a proshop where you can physically hold and shoot the bow. specially if you don't have a bunch of bow knowledge
