boxing up a rifle for shipment?

I sold a few rifles and now I have to ship them to the ffl of the new owners. I don't have the factory boxes. What do all of you use?

I went to Scheels and the guy I know got me a box from a factory rifle that had foam and everything in it already then we put that inside another box. They treat me really well in there.

Get a 8"x 8" box, go by uhaul and get one of their cheap moving blankets($3ish)and some bubble wrap. Wrap rifle or shotgun with bubble wrap, roll up rifle or shotgun in moving blanket, fold ends to cushion each end, stuff in box, tape the ever loving snot out of the box, ship.

It's almost impossible to damage when shipped this way.

Just an FYI, if you ship through USPS the box can't say anything about gun/guns or firearms on the outside of the box.

nor would you want it to. I personally think many mail carriers if they know its a gun are purposely hard on the package. I had a gun I shipped in a hard case and it was treated so badly the barrel actually came out one end of it. Another time a trigger came through the box when shipping a barreled action.

If they know its a gun. They are going to beat the tar out of it. If fact if the address is to something with gun in the name. I just use initials or leave that off. I don't want them thinking its in anyways gun related.

I left the length off, because they make them in various lengths. Shotguns I break down into the two main pieces, rifles I leave assembled.

Use the person's name first on the FFL, not the business name.

The beauty of the moving blanket wrap is that it is cushy and makes no discernable noise if they shake the box, it also prevents the box from being ruptured.
