Just got a phone call from a vendor. I talked to him last week (Tuesday) about purchasing a barrel for my rifle. I tell him what I want, and low and behold he has it in stock. He then explains to me that as soon as he gets either credit card info or money order, it will be shipped, and that by all acount I should have it next week. I say super, order a couple other whatnots and end the conversation.

I get up the next morning and purchase a Postal money order, fill it out, mail it, and try to call him to tell him its on the way, and If he can call me when he gets the message.

Fast forward to last night. Finally get him to answer the phone and he explains to me that he hasnt gotten his mail in a week and he might check it today.

He calls me tonight to let me know that he did get the Postal money order, and that unfortunately there are at least twenty guys ahead of me, and that I might get the barrel sometime shortly after the SHOT show. Imagine my surprise.

Now, granted, I know that a month wait isnt unusual for a new barrel. But dang, when you tell someone something, do it. What happened to a man is only as good as his word?

Jim, Have fun spending my money at the SHOT show, and rest assured-no matter how good that barrel shoots or how nice the lug or nut is, I will NEVER recommend you to anyone. Ive spent the last week talking you up to my buddies, and had several orders to give you.

Rest assured there will be a complete review of this company when I get the product in hand.

Got the stuff see last post.

I sang that song, too. Feel for ya, pal. There are a few words missing in his comments to you:

"as soon as he gets either credit card info or money order, AND HE FEELS LIKE, it will be shipped, and that by all acount I should have it next week, IF HE FEELS LIKE IT."

Next time, use a credit card. You can at least let him know if he doesn't hold up his end of the bargain, you'll cancel payment.

Good luck to you!

I wouldn't feel stupid yotenaylor he flat out lied.
you going to go to the hunt in nelsoneville this year?
you can give all of us the low down then.
Mike

Probably not much of a company in the first place. Sounds like a one man show who goes to the highest bidder. It would be nice to know who he is so the rest of us don't get burned in the future. Might wanna clear it with Jack so as not to cause issues for this blog.

Yep. Using a credit card gives you more protection than any other form of payment.

Psst Hey Mike U wanna buy a rifle barrel

. I'm old school I wanna see it, feel it before I buy it. Makes it hard in this day and age but if I have it in my hands I know I get what I pay for when I pay for it. Good luck Mike! Sean

I used a postal money order because I THOUGHT that was a very safe way to go, and it keeps the wifey guessing.

Im going to call him today and see what my options are. I was pretty peeessed last night so I ended the phone call before I did something rash.

I think my happiness right now hinges on either getting my money order or the product I ordered by this time next week.

Sean, you old codger!!!!!! Where you been?

Big Surprise, he didnt answer any of my calls today. I sent him an email asking him to ship my stuff or send my money order back, so, we'll see what turns up. My buddy is a local Postmaster, might just give him a call.

Postal Money order is very safe. Someone cashes it and doesnt hold up their end, Its then a fedral offense! Been there, trust me when i say, you have no problem collecting!

Received barrel, finally. Got barrel nut and recoil lug as well.

Mixed feelings with dealing with Northland shooters supply. First transaction, and I dunno if Ill buy again or not. Had to keep on him to make the transaction work out as discussed.

This was a big one for me. Did all the "blueprinting" on my lathe (insert deep labored breath).

Action: I dunno how deep I actually went into this action, as, I dont do this for a living, and I tend to find most internet how to's un "real world". I wanted an action that would cycle- no matter what, and extract no matter what, so I proceeded as until I felt it was "good enough". Lapped lugs, face reciever, lapped bolt face, took triger apart, stoned like [beeep], then cussed my self for taking trigger apart (PITA to re "rivet" back together).

Barrel: Mcgowen 26" stainless chambered in 243 win, off the shelf nothin fancy- $259.00er from Northland shooters supply.

End result:

HOLY CRAP!!!!!!! this thing, so far, shoots. period. I put my leupold 6X20 variable on it for load development, really too much scope for real world, but I need to work up loads, right. Anyways Ive been getting around .5 inch groups with any load Ive tried so far. Worst was Berger 95 grain and alliant re 22 at just over .5 and best being 65 gr vmax and IMR 3031.

end result? Im content. I loaded all the once fired last night with some retumbo, berger 95's and Nosler 90 gr BT's.

Ive noticed the chamber has an oversize shoulder. Not Quite AI, but visually bigger than the sized brass. Ive got concerns with that in regard to Full length sizing/brass life.

Some dont likes. This is my first rem/age barrel. Thought the barrel nut would not look like a bone stock savage. Looks kinda cobbled to me. Might make a new one that doesnt scream "SAVAGE". Also, the pinned recoil lug wont work on stock McMilliam aluminum bedded stocks. Need to machine small relielf for the locator pin, as it hangs down past the rem receiver. Not a "drop in, by any means.

All in all, the price is right, and the results are, by my standards, great.

Ill throw some pics up when I get a chance.

I bought a 25-06 barrel from Jim, aka Northland Shooting Supply. Kinda hard to get hold of, slow in shipping, excellent prices, parts are just as advertised--NEW! 25-06 is a frickin hammer. Yet to see a group larger than 1/2 inch with every thing I've stuff down the barrel. If he could only fix his customer service a little!! Savage shooters love him, he's got tons of parts and most are in stock.

Outside , on the grill, salt, pepper, a little garlic. Trust me, been married almost 30 years, I can cook crow several ways. Taste just like chicken wrapped in a pampers.

Yup! Gotta love Crow..

Many manufacturers/retailers were closed while at SHOT. We left a skeleton crew back to ship so stuff would still go out as planned but we operated remote. We got the same treatment as a dealer with many manufacturers, so don't feel alone in the fact that the SHOT show makes some businesses seem to forget about their customers.

On a side note, we have many many customers that call and inquire about products, and many do NOT call back, or order ever. We don't hold a product for customers who inquire. We do however offer a money order/check by mail option on our website so a customer can "reserve" his product ahead of time, but they'll have to be serious enough to actually place the order and then send payment. We also have some people that send a print-screen of their webcart and a MO via mail without even a phone call haha. We process it the same way, but it's definitely the "old school" way to place an order for a business who has a fully functional online cart.

In the future I'd suggest using a credit card especially with a vendor that does not operate as user friendly. People window shop, and unfortunately a retailer can only take payments as truth.

OLFART- I really dont know bout the eatin crow thing. I have no doubt that if I wasnt on him as much as I was, I wouldnt have been shooting yesterday, and that's what I have a problem with. Im a pull on your own bootstraps kinda guy.

Results, are great, and I cant do anything but say, I am satisfied with the product. I dunno if Ill buy from him again.

I was only going by what was posted.. I was not coming down with anything that was not already in the thread. There was no malice in my comments, and it looks as though you were satisfied after a brief trip to the shot show? I was only commenting upon what I read. It looks as if you are satisfied now. Jim at Northlander must have done you right afterall.
