Brent Saxton will present a coyote seminar at WVU Parkersburg campus in Parkersburg WV on Saturday evening March 8 from 7:00 PM til 8:30 PM. He will be available for questions after this for a little while. Brent's video "Hunting the East" is one of the best instructional video's about hunting coyotes East of the Mississippi. His seminar will be a good one.

I just got my copy yesterday and watched it immediately. I was extremely disappointed. The audio was horrible as I had to turn up the volume just to hear him and all I could hear was wind.
Brent was extremely boring and spoke with no emotion at all. I found absolutely no information helpful as everything he went over is easily found on any coyote hunting forum. I would have been disappointed if I had paid a rental fee let alone the 20 bucks plus 6 bucks s&h.
Two thumbs down save your money

I just heard about this today. I plan on attending, does anyone have any Idea what building/room they are planning on having it in? I have his first video, I agree it is pretty basic, but that was the point. I know he is working on a follow up that goes more into the details.

I have watched Brent Saxton "Hunting in the East, back to the basics" and there is nothing wrong with the audio or video on my copy. I saw nothing boring about his detailed instruction, and know from personal experience that his instructions are dead on accurate, especially for hunters who live in the southeastern and eastern parts of this country. If you were expecting a video full of kills, you would be disappointed, as this was intended to be a "How to" video, first of a series. Most of the videos offered today are a bunch of kills, edited out of countless hours of filming, and give the newer hunter a false sense of the difficulty involved in calling and harvesting coyotes. Brent's video should serve as a good basic beginning lesson for the newer hunters, and I would say his seminar will be a source of valuable tips and info for the beginner and veteran yote hunters.

Would have to agree with Al and Frogman. I think you will learn something from Brent's seminar.

Yes, the video was basic, but with quality info. I am a trapper as well and his tips will put more fur in your traps too.

If you want an exciting, questionable, do little for you talk go to the Morgantown seminar. My full $ 5.00.

Boys, I gotta say, I would have spent that twenty bucks to help support any local guy tryin to showcase the reality of eastern hunting. Its pretty cool watching two or three of 'em break off a live Jack to charge a hand call but it just don't happen to me real often...

I thought it was worth the price of admission to hear the tone quality of the latex reed set-up on one of Brent's horn howlers, but like I said, I'm biased about supporting local folks.

I thought he seemed nervous in the 1st video. To me that's understandable. He seemed more comfortable when he was in his element which was going thru the calling & setups. I thought Brent did a good job for his 1st video & there was plenty of info to help us Eastern hunters out. I expect his next video to be just as good if not better.

He's a hunter making a film about hunting. He's not a film-maker pretending to be a hunter. He wanted to make a film that would help new guys get started. He did exactly that.

Weasel, That's the same thing I say.....But, were getting the hang of the videography part of it this time around /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Weasel, I didnt expect a filmmaker I just expected some passion and not a monotone speech. I also knew not to expect many hunt scenes, wasnt looking for that either. The quality of the dvd was sub par ,like I said all I could hear was the wind in most scenes. not what I expect for 20 bucks. but I guess Im the minority here just my opinion

Probably not frog......While Brent is Talking about killing coyotes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif....I will be killing coyotes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif...

If you want to see a guy get into hand calling, ya need to go to one of his seminars. If you don't start feeling sorry for the distressed animal he's doing ... turn your hearing aide on! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Don't be afraid to ask him questions. Brent has always been willing to share what he knows & if he doesn't know he'll tell ya he just doesn't know & not feed ya a bunch of hogwash. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

beno72, You have every right to voice your opinions and shouldn't feel as a minority..I helped Brent with the video, just as Weasel stated, We are hunters and not videographers. The editing was not done by us, although from that point on out, it is. We focused on content, trying to help people shorten the learning curve. Were just 2 country boy's workin pretty hard honestly, to put information in the hands of beginners to help them learn.

We have spent some time and money to better ourselves with equipment and knowledge of the videography side of this adventure.

Well, if I can say something here...

Brent is a great caller and a very knowledgeable predator hunter. He and I talked about his making this video before he released it. I have one of the first copys... it certainly isn't Disney or Discovery but he does hit the major points for the new guys. Other than that, like some have said it is lacking and has many repeats. Would I buy it again? Yes(but maybe not for $20 bucks LOL)! I'd still feel the same about it as I do now. I wouldn't watch it over and over but it was interesting enough to watch and learn something from.

What I'd be much more interested in is listening to Brent talk about his calling techniques and showing how to blow calls! I think in a seminar setting he will be super! That is his strength, that he does very well!

Tom hit the nail on the head... seminars and DVDs are two different animals. The old apples and oranges term comes to mind. DVD's don't often give the person a great platform to express himself and his abilities as well as live and right there. If you are still in the beginning stages of your predator hunting, I say take in as much information as you can. Knowledge is the keystone to any good hunter. Without knowledge of the animals, their habitat, their instincts, and their reactions to calls will only make you into one of the guys that give up within two or three years after starting. This knowledge of the animals can come from those who have seen and caused those reactions first hand. Learning from them first will make you a better hunter... Think of it this way... coyotes are extremely versatile and learn from their mistakes. Beat them at their own game... become versatile and learn from OTHERS mistakes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Brent's video was educational, I agree it was not made as well as other videos out there. I think I got my moneys worth and am happy with what I got. He really focuses on how to approach a piece of property in relation to the wind. Problem is, I'm a fur hunter. I don't use coyote vocals because I want to see fox and cats also. But I still found his video useful. His howler sounds awesome! I'd love to see his seminar, I'm sure it's much better than the one everyone keeps referring to in Morgantown. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
